Kaylee knew exactly how Shane felt, being a horrible cook. Her father was the worst cook on the planet. For most of her life, she was the one preparing the meals, doing the dishes. Her father never appreciated it. Always just got up and walked away, not the simple "Thank you darling" with a kiss on the head in appreciation that she longed for. Eventually as he earned more money and her food wasn't good enough for him, he hired a cook. Even then Kaylee never ate the cooks food, always preparing her own. She explained to the cook not to take offense to it, she was sure his food was spectacular, but only lazy people hire people to do everyday things. So until the day she left, she prepared every meal for herself.
She laughed putting her other hand on the back of her neck not looking up at him yet. Staring off just thinking of their time together. "It's okay, I'll teach you!" She looked over at him and nodded, smiling. "You know it's a good idea." There was so much she thought of doing with Shane, so many places their friendship could go.
She wondered what his dorm looked like. Lot's of posters? Lot's of furniture? Messy? Clean? She was interested in all aspects of him. Many have said you can learn a lot from a person's room. Probably the reason MTV created the show "Room Raiders". This strange excitement lit up in her. She couldn't wait to see his room. As he asked her a question she looked down at her feet shaking her head. She looked back up and answered "Normally I just take the train down here, and get a train ticket back when I feel like it."
Suddenly the gorgeous skies opened up and dropped down the largest warmest drops of rain. Unlike most girls that shriek in fear, she laughed. Many people scattered the NYC sidewalks hiding from the rain, leaving all this space in front of them. She broke free of his arm and ran in front of him, twirling. Shane had ducked under a resturant's over hang. She loved the rain, the way it felt on her skin. She felt like a new person being washed of all her pain. She continued to twirl getting herself completely soaked. It didn't faze her that she had on a lacey white top and a dark black bra underneath. She was having fun and she wouldn't stop. She twirled and twirled, giggling softly. She stopped and grabbed Shane's hand as he was watching her. "Join me." She said softly.

There was one very good thing about having a father that was incredibly powerful at his job- almost every day, they would sit down as a family and had dinner together. Sometimes they talked, sometimes it was awkward, and by the time Shane had his own car, he often just heated up a plate when he got in at night. But his mother had stayed home and cooked every night for her boys, and it was amazing. Even with all the family drama going on around them, her husband cheating on her, she was still willing to put up the face for her little boy- to make sure he had a secure place to come home to. Even if it was all a lie- he didn't know how he would have turned out without that. His father was always good to him, and he always fed his guilt by buying his mother nice, expensive things. He knew she knew, she knew he knew she knew, but they stayed together all the same.
At her proposal to teach him how to cook, he laughed. "Yeah good luck with that. We may need an un-burnable building. Perhaps concrete?" He joked, but of course, he relented. "Well you asked for it, don't hate me if all the hair's been singed off your head by the end of the night. I warned you fair and square- and it's just as well I drove here too."
When the first speck of rain hit the top of his head, he didn't even have to look up too quickly to see everyone around them throw the newspapers they were reading above their heads to keep away from it. He almost laughed at them all- where did they have to go? Office buildings that knew it was raining? People were far too judgemental these days, no one could ever just have fun. He could almost guarentee most of the woman had on makeup that would only come off if they scrubbed their faces with a brillo pad. Ah well, there was no point, none of it was his buisness anyway.
Shane brought her under a resteraunt overhang, expecting that she'd be one of the many trying to escape the rain. But again, she suprised him. He watched her twirl around like a little kid in a grown womans body. It was refresing to see someone so real doing something so natural. He smiled and nodded as she took a hold of his hand, twining his fingers with hers and following her out onto the sidewalk, spinning her under his arm over and over again until a lightning bolt cracked and the sound of the rain hitting the road was disturbed. "You do realize we're going to be electricuted right?" He called over the now heavily pouring rain. His hair was dripping in his face, and his clothes were soaked to the bone, but for some reason, there was nowhere in the world he'd rather be.
((careful there dearie lol Shane wouldn't duck under the overhang, but i'll work with you this time:P))

She laughed at his suggestion of a concrete building. "Shane believe me, you couldn't be any worse then my father. Believe me, you actually look like you'll be a good cook once I show you some stuff". It was true, he really did look like he'd be a good father, a good cook. So much that his own father never was. One thing that she was appreciative was, was that Shane actually showed interest in learning. Whenever she asked to teach her father, he shrugged his shoulders and kept walking. Acting like he never heard her.
The rain started and she twirled and twirled and twirled. If anything she was thankful for in her childhood, she knew how to be a kid. Shane stepped out into the rain with her, intertwining their fingers she quickly got a weird sensation. She stopped and looked at him for a second seeing if he noticed. They looked at each other for a split second before he started to spin her. He giggled and she laughed realizing this was probably the most fun she had in her entire life. A lightning bolt cracked and surprisingly neither of them flinched much. They had stopped spinning and the rain had become terribly loud, he called over the loudness to her. She knew that they could, but every molecule in her was so excited she couldn't stop. She looked at his face and his clothes. She knew that should get some coverage somewhere otherwise they'd get sick but she couldn't. She looked into his eyes as raindrops clung to his eyelashes. Their hair becoming madded to their heads with the weight of the water. She knew she looked horrible, her hair all a mess, her clothes being soak. Yet with him she felt more beautiful then ever. She looked down at their hands, when the lightning had struck and they stopped twirling, they didn't let go of their hands. She looked back up at his face, while he looked down at their hands a bit longer. His eyes looked so deep against his soaking wet hair. Every inch of her was seemed to be doing things before she could properly think. "Shane.." She said, as his head lifted to her. She didn't wait for any response at all. She dropped his hand and used them to gently cup his face. She got on his tiptoes and gently grazed her lips against his before they came into full contact. She hoped desperately that he didn't think she was crazy. After lingering a second or two in front of his face she pressed her lips against his gently.

This was what University was for right? Doing crazy shit you'd never do anywhere else at any other time. It was a time to be adventurous, to get to know people, to have fun with people you'd never thought you'd meet. The last hour he'd spent in the middle of New York city with a girl he had only just met, and here he was, watching her spin in the rain with all her heart. It was beautiful, and she was all the more beautiful to him because of it.
A lot of guys could find it off-putting, that this girl would actually stop and play out in the rain. He could hear them now- 'How old is she? Three?'. But it was incredibly refreshing for him to see someone with a little bit of spark. Her past didn't sound like it had been too easy for her, but she still managed to smile and giggle about the things that truly made her happy- he respected her for that.
He looked up as she said his name, and was taken by surprise at the look in her eyes. He didn't know what it was, but things just seemed to get so much more serious after that lightning bolt. Symbolism? Maybe. Perhaps this was their time to be wild and free, and if this was meant to be, this was meant to be.
Her hands felt oddly warm against his cool cheeks, her lips incredibly soft against his own. There was nothing like kissing a girl for the first time, and this was no different. He knew she couldn't be in love, they hadn't even known each other long enough to have those feelings. It felt to him like one of those spontanious moments that no person should give away, so, he kissed her back. He wrapped one arm around her waist to bring her closer, using the other to gently hold the back of her neck. Pulling back for just a moment to look at her face, her sopping hair...she looked beautiful when she was a mess. He smiled, closing his eyes and leaning in to kiss her softly again.
There was something inside him telling him that this could go terribly wrong. What if either of them looked too far into it? What if she felt more then he did? What if this ruined a friendship they could have had? But the other half of him was telling him to live a little - let things happen. So, he did.

Kaylee kissed him ever so softly. Rubbing the back of his head gently, she run her fingers through his hair. His cheeks were a bit scruffy with hair that he hadn't shaven that day, but it felt good. His lips were so perfect for being a guy. She'd never done anything this crazy, here is this guy she met only at the beginning of the day yet she was attracted to him. It almost seemed that the electricity from the lightning bolt ran threw her making her do things she would never have done. She usually would have ignored the fact that she was attracted to him and let things become that they were going to. But she couldn't help herself. She felt so good in his arms, it'd been so long since she was properly cared for.
He pulled away and looked at her and she gave him the slightest smile and he began kissing her again. Kissing him felt so free, so relaxing. He looked better than ever with his hair soaking wet, his clothes clung to his body and she could see his toned abs underneath. Suddenly it appealed to her that maybe he didn't feel the same way and she was being a fool. She tended to do that a lot, be a fool. What if he never cared at all. Was she just being a stupid blonde that assumes everyone feels the way she did. She pulled away from the kiss and looked up at him, almost a little ashamed of what she did. She looked down at the wet sidewalk, pulling the clumped hair behind her ear. "I'm so.. sorry. Maybe I shouldn't have.." She bit her lip in fear. She knew what would probably be coming. Yeah, you're right or Why did you do that?!. The wetness of her clothes began to take a toll on her body and she began to slightly shiver.

There was no question that this was the oddest thing that had happened to Shane since he had been here. Getting to an empty dorm and unpacking- that had been expected. Meeting an old friend in a coffee shop- pretty amazing. Kissing a girl in the rain? Completely unexpected. But that was okay with him.
It's not like he didn't know what he was doing- Shane had kissed girls before- but kissing her was a whole new experience. Her thin body wrapped in his arms seemed even smaller now, like he had to protect her from everything bad in New York City. Their soft, tender kisses seemed perfect for their day together. It was relaxed and easy going, but at the same time it felt like the electricity in the air was flowing through his body like a current along with his blood.
When she pulled away, he let go of his already soft grip on her neck and let his hand fall down to her waist, listening to her as she appologized. What was all this about? "Hey, did it seem like a good idea at the time?" He asked, his voice soft and deep. He tucked her wet hair behind her ear again for her, looking down into her face. Shane was a firm believer in 'no regrets', and this wouldn't be a regret for him. It would be a dissapointment if anything went wrong, but everything in life he made sure he learnt from, would take it as a life lesson to help him in the future.

Kaylee nodded almost afraid to speak. She did think it was a good idea at the time, but that doesn't justify what he thinks. "Yes.." She spoke ever so softly. "It did, but.. I mean if you didn't think it was.." She didn't know what else to say. She was extremely embarrassed. She continued to shiver a bit more. He tucked the hair behind her ear and she looked up at him. Her lips quivered a bit. She bit down on it for it to stop. She looked into his eyes, and wished she could explain that her feelings were real. She rarely falls for people like this, knowing that they were genuine. She knew that he could have trust issues. The exact opposite of what she had. She clung onto people too quickly, turning them off many times. But she knew many people with trust issues, but for some reason she always proved to them that she wasn't out to get them. She was a true and genuine person.
She wasn't about to admit that she didn't feel anything, she felt a connection between them. He understood her like no one could. He didn't judge her, he was just there listening. Maybe he just wanted to be friends, maybe the way he treated her was just what he was to everyone. But she secretly hoped she was special, that she was different. She'd always wanted to be special.
"Should we head out? We're going to get sick" She said turning to walk away.

"Sure." He said as she recommended heading out. "Come on- I'm sure I have something at my place you can change into while your stuff dries." He took a hold of her hand and led her down the street towards his car. There was no need to take the bus or the train home when he had a perfectly good car sitting just down the street.
He didn't really know what was going to happen after this. A cooking lesson was evident, but what about her? He didn't know what to think about her right now. Of course he still respected her- he didn't think any less of her just because she had kissed him randomly in the pouring rain. But again, he stayed with his theory that he should just let things happen.
"Hold on, I gotta unlock it from the inside." He said over the rain, leaving her on the sidewalk at the passengers side to run around to the drivers door. He climbed in and unlocked the door as fast as he could so she could climb in after him and turned up the heater to the max. It was freezing in here, and it wouldn't help that the both of them were incredibly wet.

She nodded, it sounded good for her. "That'd be great, Thanks." She said as they walked quickly threw the rain. Part of her didn't want to walk quickly. She wanted the rain to drowned her. She knew she had blown all chances with him and should just go along with what happens. She rubbed her arms hard to rejuvenate the heat that she had lost. She waited for him to get inside and unlock the car. She waited for the sound of the click before she climbed in after him. She rubbed her arms a bit harder knowing that the heat would take a bit to start. She sat on her hands to keep them warm. She looked over at Shane as he started the car and pulled out. She stared out the window watching the rain drip down slowly.
"Thank you for taking me. You didn't have to" She said, running her fingers threw her hair trying to get it to do something. She wondered what would happen now. She mind as well act like nothing happened. Better to put it behind them. He didn't seem to be dwelling on it, so why should she. She hoped that things wouldn't be weird. She wished she never kissed them, they were having so much fun till she fucked it up.

Shane reached over and flicked the radio on, not playing it too loudly as the car slowly started to warm up. He wanted to make sure it was all good to go just in case he toasted his engine. He looked over to her looking out the window and felt bad- she seemed upset since they'd set off away from their kiss, and he didn't want that. He didn't want her to feel like she'd made a mistake.
Because it had been far from a mistake. This was what college was for right? She was supposed to go around kissing guys, she was supposed to be having fun. He didn't mind being part of that fun. He ran his fingers through his hair, scraping it back from his face and thinking for a second. He had to make her understand all this.
Reaching his hand over, he gave her own a little sqeeze to try to get her attention. "Kaylee?" He asked, making sure she was paying attention to him. He wanted her to look at him before he started talking- she needed to know he was real.

The radio turned on and she was thankful for something to break the silence. Suprisingly she liked the song. She looked in front of her as the words to the song repeated through her head. Her hands were frozen but she placed the on her knees. She started to think about what she should teach him to make. Anything but what just happened. They could make the mac and cheese, then maybe she could teach him to make a cake. They should probably stop at a grocery store if they want to make something good. She felt his hand reach over to hers and give it a squeeze. His hands were warmer than hers and they felt good. He spoke her name and she looked up at him. He had a serious look on his face and she wondered what he was going to say. She smiled a bit and replied. "Yes?" She spoke softly scratching her knee softly to waste away the time.

"You're not allowed to feel weird around me now alright?" He said with a light laugh. "I kissed you too remember? You don't have to worry about me thinking less of you okay?" He just wanted to be her friend, even if that was it for now.
The last thing he wanted was for things to be awkward between the two of them. He loved how they were getting along before things got weird, like they were now. "I just wanted you to know that, alright?" He still wanted to hang around with her- but he didn't know how to tell her that the last thing he was looking for was a relationship- with anyone. He had trust issues, he had issues with himself, and he had this thirst for freedom that he couldn't let go, not for anyone right now. He needed change, and this was it.
