Her face perked up a bit, she wasn't sure if it was because he mentioned Rutherford or something to drink. "You're kidding me, Rutherford?! I go there!" She said giggling a bit. She hated her laugh, she felt like everyone thought it was annoying. "That'd be great, I just need to sit down or something, grab something to drink. I just feel sick cause I haven't eaten much today" She said and quickly stopped. Shit, Kaylee, he's going to think your anorexic. She wasn't she would swear on it. She used to be when she was younger, at a harder time in her life. But ever since then if she didn't eat much she got faint. "A drink would just be fantastic, you can go grab a pair while I take a break. We'll walk over to Nike."

"Haha yeah? That's kick ass, we'll have to hang out around campus sometime soon." He said with a laugh, but at the moment he was more concerned with her.
"Alright that's a deal." He said. "I'll walk with you to the nearest cafe, we'll get you a drink, I'll run and get myself some shoes and meet you back at the table. Is it a plan?" He asked, making sure that was cool with her. He didn't want her to feel like he was ditching her, but he'd much prefer knowing she was safely sitting at a table rather than passed out on the floor in a shoe store. He'd only known her five minutes and he already felt responsible for the girl.
When she said she hadn't eaten much that day, he didn't think much of it. He hadn't eaten since 11:30 the night previous, who the hell was he to judge? Her eating patterns were none of his buisness. "We'll even get you a muffin while we're at it." He laughed.

"Oh Shane, you are a saint." She giggled again. God, Kaylee shut up with the laughing She said to herself. She walked with him to a cafe to get a drink, walking slowly and peacefully listening again to the clicking of her heals. She looked over and up at him since he was quite a bit taller than her. "So Shane, tell me about yourself. Any funny or interesting?" She asked.
She loved meeting new people, she loved listening to them. She was always a problem solver, but come her own and she was the worst mess. She hated speaking about herself, she hated herself anyways. Work on that. She made another mental note to herself. That's what the therapist always said. She needed to work on appreciating herself. She loved getting to know people and asking questions but the thing she feared the most was when it got to the part where they asked them back. She dreaded them. Sometimes that was the reason she never asked about the person. But she felt some comfort with Shane, she felt that if he did ask about her, she'd be relaxed. It was different with him.

"Hmm, well not much interersting, to be quite honest." He said, walking beside her with his hands in his jeans pocket. "I drove out here from Orange County a few weeks ago, moved in and this is where I am now. Before that, I grew up in Orange County with my mom and my dad, going to highschool like a normal teenager." Well, as normal as a rich kid can be he guessed. He knew both sides of this tale, he hadn't always been rich. He felt like a big poser most of the time, knowing that his real home was with the kids on the streets, but this was his ticket out and he was going to ride it for as long as he could.
"I sing, I have tattoos and I love my car." He laughed, looking down at her with a smile on his face. "What about you though? Tell me about Kaylee." He wanted to get to know more about her, he figured he could have a friendship here that may last.

"No way, you're from Cali? I'm from Laguna. She smiled wide. She liked that they had lots in common. "Okay, well I don't have a tattoo, I suck at singing, and my cars a piece of shit. She smiled more. Then he said it, she took a deep breath, and nothing would come out. She just.. didn't know where to start. What do say. "Um, ... uh ... I like cats?" She got out. Cats, cats are all I can get out? "I'm complicated." Was all she could say to defend herself. Thank god they reached the Cafe. She interrupted herself, "OH- Here we are. I'll just sneak in here and wait for you at that table" She said pointing in the corner. He must think she's crazy, absolutely nuts.

"Yeah, I'm from Orange County." He nodded, looking down to the pavement again and waiting for her answer. But she hesitated, and when he looked up, all she could manage was cats. He chuckled softly when she interrupted herself twice afterwards, looking down at her intently. "Alright." He said, stopping in front of the cafe with her. "You get your drink- and think of something better than cats within five minutes when I will be back and expect to hear something much more interesting than a story about felines." He said with a smirk, winking at her before walking forward down the street.
There were a few stores here and there, he was bound to find one soon. That didn't give her much time to think something up, but it gave her something. Some people were awkward, he got that. In fact, a lot of people were awkward- at least she had the balls to admit it.

She rolled her eyes and nodded. "I've only known you five minutes and I already hate you." She giggled a bit and walked toward the line that was forming. She turned around quickly before he went too far. She called a bit. "Don't be too long!" She smiled. She walked up and got in line looking up at the wall above her for what she wanted to get. She should probably get something with caffeine to get some more energy into her. She decided and waited for the line to move. Within minutes she was up to the counter. "I'll take one Venti Caramel Mocha Latte, and a Chocolate Chip Muffin, please" She smiled and nodded as she spoke. The cashier told her the total and kindly took Kaylee's money. She took her muffin and walked to the table and sat to wait for her drink. What would she tell him, she was so afraid of her past, she could only really tell him the basics. Unless she made herself up, gave herself a fake identity. But she couldn't do that to him. That'd be lying and she reallying wanted him to like her for who she was. She decided what she'd tell him but hoped she wouldn't just get pity as a response.

"Bah, you love it." He laughed, giving her a wave before dissapearing into the crowd of people that seemed to engulf him like a hungry whale.
It didn't take him too long to figure out what he wanted, and it took him half that time to make it through the line in the store. It seemed like everyone was either in class or they were on the streets window shopping. Not that he minded, the sooner he was out of here the sooner he could get back to make sure Kaylee hadn't passed out in the middle of the street.
He wasn't like most of the other people back home- he didn't detest shopping, but it didn't make him want to dance. Sure, a good day at the mall was necessary when all your pants had rips in them and your socks had all been eaten by the dryer- but wasn't that what moms were for? With the new kicks on his feet, he threw the old ones out and made his way back down the street to the small cafe she was waiting in - well, he assumed she was waiting in.
And sure enough, there she was sitting in a chair with a coffee cup and a muffin. A smile crossed his face as he flopped down in the chair opposite her, swinging one of his feet onto the table to show off his new white runners. "Whaddya think?" He asked, looking down at them with pride. "I think I'll keep them."

She heard her drink be called and quickly got up and grabbed it off the counter. Thanking the barista she grabbed a napkin and sat back down. She sipped the coffee ever so gently afraid of it's warmth. As soon as it touched her tongue she jumped. "AH" She giggled, "That's hot". She looked around. Who was she talking to? Absolutely no one. She looked up in the doorway and sure enough there he was. She had to admit she was a little scared he was going to leave her. Just abandon her there in the Cafe. She was glad he didn't. He put his put up on the table and she laughed. She liked them, they were a perfect choice. "Nope." She said with a straight face. "They're hideous." She attempted to keep a straight face but surely she slowly cracked a smile and then laughed. { I made you this.. img.photobucket.com/albums/v22/Lillyk511/shane.png you don't have to use it if you don't want to. }

Shane narrowed his eyes at her, breaking the lie out of her until her little laugh seeped through her pink lips. "Ha, you're just jealous." He said, letting his foot drop back down to the floor before anyone yelled at him for putting up his feet in public- he could just hear his mother now...
He shuddered at the thought, instead reaching over and grabbing her coffee, taking a sip. "So, didja think of anything yet sparky?" He asked, setting her cup back down on the table and waiting for her responce. She'd had more than enough time, and he was determined to get something out of her sooner rather than later.
(Are you kidding me?!?! Thank you so much! I'm putting it up right now- it's in a URL in his sig cause it was too big for the site, but it's there I promise.)

{you're welcome. You don't have to use it, just thought I could make you one. }
She liked Shane, he made her happy, for once in her life. She was always insecure and always by herself, when she was with people she was afraid they were judging like her parents did. "I am. You caught me. Go buy me a pair too. I want them so badly." She smiled wide watching him take a drink of her coffee. Secretly hoping he'd burn himself too so she wasn't an idiot, but like normal he didn't. Then he asked. She took a deep breath and sighed a bit. "Ok, Mr. Annoying. Um.. my whole life my parents hated me, for something I did when I was little. Don't ask what it is, it's embarrassing and horrible and you'll change your view on me like everyone else did. Ever since then when I was little I didn't have an friends. I made friends with horses, and even slept in their stalls. That's it. I'm done." She looked down at the table, she couldn't look at his face. What if he made a disgusted face, or what if he laughed. She felt her heart sink so far. She hated telling people about her horrible past. She really hoped he didn't ask her what she did. Shane was one of the few people she felt comfortable with. But she didn't know if she knew him well enough, they'd only just met, and what if he was faking. What if he's really a jerk. There's just information that she'd be afraid to tell people.

Shane wasn't an idiot- he knew when it was a time to laugh and when it was a time to sit there and shut the hell up till you knew the right thing to say. This was one of the later moments. Something she did when she was little? He didn't understand why anyones parents could hate them for a mistake a kid could make. It was obvious that she didn't want him to know though, and that was fine. He had confidence that she'd tell him later on if she decided she wanted to stay friends with him.
It didn't take him very long to respond- and the tone in his voice was one of clear understanding. "Do you honestly think I'm gonna walk away because two half-wits buggered up your entire childhood?" He asked softly, leaning forward closer to her, resting his hands on the table they were sitting at. "Besides- you didn't miss out on much. Horses are MUCH more trustworthy than people."
