((I’m so sorry it took me so long to respond!!))
He listened to her story, settling his head back down in the pillows. When the truth came out of it all, he didn’t know what to say. She had killed her own mother? He was glad when she kept speaking- giving him time to think it all through and understand a little more what had happened. It was obvious that this was hard for her, he had seen her cry already and it was obvious now that she was doing her best not to.
It sounded like something a typical six year old girl would have gotten upset over. Not going to gymnastics would have been like not being able to ride a bike for Shane. When she did start crying at the end of her story, Shane reached out and wrapped his arm around her, pulling her closer to him and kissing the top of her head. “Hey, hey you were six babe…” He whispered to her. “You didn’t know that was going to happen to her. How could you have known?” He could say all this, but he couldn’t even begin to imagine how she must have felt for her entire life before telling anyone this. The guilt she would have felt every time she thought of her mother- it was nothing a person could ever fully forget.

{ it's okay darling! }
She knew the second that the first words came out of her mouth he wouldn't know what to think. What would a normal reaction to something like this be anyways? It's not like there is a book, or something that they teach you in school to tell you the proper ways to react to him. She knew that if she was on the one on the receiving end and it wasn't her own fucked up life, that she'd think this was pretty bizarre. It was hard to tell Shane, but at the same time she felt like 15 pounds had just dropped off her body. No one in the world other than her family knew. She had carried the guilt of her mothers death with her for 12 years. Thank God someone in the world could understand her every reaction to the world around her. Every time she was insecure or made a stupid decision and people that she was crazy she wanted to scream in her face. She wanted to scream to everyone that she killed her mother. There were things inside of her that she couldn't help. Although she had all of these wishes, she never did them. Not until this moment had the words escaped her mouth "I killed my mother". Finally the fragment that had replayed in her head hundreds of thousands of times, was finally given breath.
As soon as those words escaped all she could get the energy to do was curl up in him. She was afraid. She couldn't look at his face for minutes, afraid of what he'd say. She desperately wanted to know what he was thinking. Had he thought she was crazy, did he feel bad for her. She hoped it wasn't the first. He kissed her head and she relaxed a bit. A gesture like that must mean that he cares. She continued to think of all the things she just explained. That day had replayed throughout her mind so many times she wasn't even sure if it was real life anymore. It had begun to seem like a film, one that she'd get lost in her brain and watch over and over. She was frustrated at her father. Why hadn't he ever gotten help, what hadn't her ever got HER help? If he had killed his mother, then he'd understand the toll that it takes on you. Kaylee never once spoke to a therapist, help organize the thoughts she was having, and her father never went to a therapist to work out the anger he had at his daughter. Because of these her life would be hell forever.
"Thank you" She whispered softly in between tiny gasps for air as she cried softly. She was never a loud crier. One of those people that wailed and screamed as they cried. Those people always wanted attention. When she cried the last thing she wanted was everyone's eyes on her. She wanted to hide in her room and just let it all out. After her mothers death she cried for weeks at end. They say the body is made up of 70% of water. By the end of those weeks, she had used up every last ounce of it in her body. She was sure of it. Nothing would come out, nothing COULD come out.
She looked up at Shane after a couple minutes of crying softly. She gave him a soft smile, so thankful just being there, listening to her. "You don't know how good that felt." She said wiping her face.

"No problem." He whispered to her, kissing the top of her head again. He couldn't imagine how long she had had that pent up inside of her. It wasn't one of those things you went around telling people. Hi, my name is Kaylee and I killed my mother when I was six years old. Definitly not. How long had she felt guilty about that? Knowing that she didn't have a mother because of her? She was old enough now to know it was an accident, but all the same, that would be something impossible to forget.
There was something about her now, maybe it was the way she was wrapped in his arms, that made him want to kiss her again, and more than on the forehead. But he didn't want to send her mixed signals, it wasn't fair. The last thing he wanted was a relationship right now, and it wasn't just because he was a horny university student. He had seen the relationship between his parents fall apart piece by piece, his mother along with it. The last thing he ever wanted was to make anyone feel like that. All the same, as she lay there beside him he couldn't help but notice how beautiful she was.
His bare chest rose and fell with the pattern of his breathing, but he could feel his heart skip as her big eyes looked up to him again. "Anytime." He whispered, swallowing the lump in his throat. What the hell?

She closed her eyes gently and kept them shut for a bit as he kissed her on the head. For some reason as he kissed her head things didn't feel so bad anymore. She had let out her deepest secret and he didn't hate her. He didn't think that she deserved feeling pain and better yet he continued to cradle her in his arms. She felt tiny in his arms, but comfortable. She wondered if this is what it felt like to be a child in a fathers arms. She'd never truely know. She liked feeling protected by Shane, acutally feeling cared for. The emotions and feelings that she was experiencing were so new that she didn't know what to do, what to think.
As she looked up at him his face was so soft and gentle. So sweet and caring. She continued to stare into his eyes smiling softly as she leaned into him. She could hear her heart beating loudly as she felt a connection between the two of them. She really cared for Shane. It wasn't just because he paid attention to her, but he was really a genuine guy. As he looked at her soft face, innocent and heart broken she felt he could see right through her. She was scared that he could see all that she was thinking, but yet she wanted him to know. Did he notice the connection when their eyes met as well, or was it just her?

No, it hadn't been just her, but it scared him to death. And Shane Phillips never...EVER got scared.
He cleared his throat and pulled away to look down at her, his eyebrows coming together. "Weren't you supposed to teach me how to cook woman?" He asked confidently, but inside he was going nuts. This was the perfect opportunity, this was the perfect time to kiss her and make it worth something. But that was what was so scarry about the entire thing. Perfect never lasted, he had learnt that much in his years of living, and not much would change his mind about that on said topic.
"Because we're not getting much done just laying here." That bit at least was true. There was no cooking while she was laying here in his arms, not that he hated the feeling. She fit perfectly, and she was also extremely warm. He didn't notice he was doing it till now, but for the last few minutes he had gently been stroking her back with the back of his fingers. He stopped immediately, laying his palm flat on her back and tapping his fingers along her spine instead.

She nodded. She knew he was right. Staring at each other, not doing anything, didn't really make any sense. She picked up her body from his and turned around, looking around the room. She wasn't looking for anything but it just felt like something to do. She pulled down on the boxers she was wearing and adjusted her shirt a bit. She wiped any extra makeup that had gotten messed up when she was crying. "I'm going to turn you into the best cook ever" She said smiling a bit. She pushed away all the romantic feelings that she had, had. She wasn't going to make the mistake of being the one to kiss him first, again. She knew they both felt something but she knew as he had said earlier in the day that he wasn't ready. She understood, having a girlfriend was complicated. Especially HER as a girlfriend.
She didn't want awkward again, that was horrible. If she acted like they never had a connection maybe they'd both forget about it. Obviously if his feelings were strong enough he would do something, right? She kinda shruged her shoulders to herself a bit. She never understood guys and she probably never would. She waited for him to stand up to follow her to the kitchen. "Mac and Cheese is what we agreed on, right?" She turned around and asked.

Shane rolled off the bed after her, clearing his throat again and running his fingers through his messy hair- doing his best to tame it. He grabbed at the first shirt within his grasp- a plain black T that he had ripped the sleeves off earlier during the summer. He turned to her and grinned wide. "Alright woman, teach me." He laughed- he had to shake this feeling off and it would only go away if he thought about something else. Like not burning down the dorms.
"With your help and guidance perhaps I could become the worlds next best chef." He joked, following her through to his kitchen. He lived her and she already knew the layout better. Girls were just more in tune with that stuff- at least he assumed so. "Mhm, mac cheese." He nodded, hopping up so he was sitting on his kitchen counter, his bare feet dangling close to the floor. "Perhaps we should just open a resteraunt and make the K-Mac Cheese the specialty?" He offered his brilliant plan with a smirk playing on his lips, but with his luck they'd be arrested for arson before they even looked into a permit.

Kaylee nodded her head. "Yes, you will be the best chef. Now an important question." She started laughing a bit. "Do you even have the ingredients?". They had completely forgotten before they got all worked up about the mac and cheese that to actually make the food you have to have the food. She began looking through his cupboards and refrigerator. she shook her head a bit laughing. She looked back at him with a sad face.
"Looks like we're out." She shut the refrigerator door. She cracked a smile. "I'll head down to the grocery store and get us some stuff, would you like to come along you hobo." She laughed and went over to him. "We can make something as well, not just mac and cheese. I got money". She loved their goofy times. She loved that they joked a lots. She also liked that she was attracted to him in some way. But what is she supposed to do?

"Well...I haven't really had the chance to go grocery shopping..." He said, but she had already started to search his cup-boards. It was rather embarassing really. He had all the money he could ever need and his refridgerator and cup-boards were blank cavas'. In his defence though, he hadn't quite had time to go out grocery shopping yet. Well, that was a lie- but what dude grocery shops?
"Told ya." He laughed, smiling back at her. "Hey...hey...be careful with your language choice there woman, you're the one wearing my boxers and t-shirt." He laughed, hopping off the counter. "Of course I'll come with- your stuff should be done drying by now." He walked through to the other room, peeping into the dryer and feeling to make sure her stuff was truly dry- which it was. "You're good, get changed, I'll grab my wallet and we'll head." He left her clothes on the top of the dryer and walked out, leaving her to get changed. "Close the door behind you though eh?" He smirked, walking back through to the kitchen. "Don't want another peep show." Of course he was kidding, but he respected her, and he wanted her to know it.

Kaylee understood the fact that he had no food. I mean he should look at her cabinets. They were empty, except for some wrappers here and there. It's not that she's a messy girl or anything, just that she doesn't have much time to go shopping as well. That's what college was, not being able to go shopping cause of having way to much fun.
"Yes, but remember. I look good in them." Kaylee was relieved that he mentioned her clothes. She had partly forgotten that she was wearing his. If he hadn't mentioned her changing back into her original clothes she would have walked right out to the parking lot in boxers and a t-shirt. That would have been a sight.
She walked in after him listening to his explanation of what will happen next. She nodded. "You just don't want to get a peek cause you know you'll be drooling all over the place." She laughed a bit shutting the door. She slowly peeled off his boxers and removed his shirt over her head. She slipped on her underwear and then her pants. She jumped a bit to fit back into them. She hated how clothes shrunk when they were freshly dried. She picked up her bra and clasped it back on. Pulled over her shirt and brushed herself evenly off. She opened the door and walked out, giving a bit of a spin. "Better?" She smiled a bit. She walked over and grabbed his arm linking it in hers. "Come on you lazy bum." She giggled and they walked out to his car. She slid herself into the passenger seat, still wet a bit from the ride home from New York.
"Do you even know where the closest grocery store IS?" She questioned.

“Well, no shit. You’d probably look good in a paper bag.” He replied plainly, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Well, there was no question that she was absolutely stunning. But, alas, it would have been just mean if he had let her go out in this weather in naught but his boxers and a t-shirt.
“Well…of course…” He pretended to be incredibly shy as she mentioned that he would most likely end up drueling all over the place if he saw her naked again. But he stopped the act soon after, looking at her rather bored before she shut the door. “Oh come on, you’re old news now.” He said, sauntering off into his own room and grabbing a pair of socks and shoving them on his feet. He knocked on the door while he passed it. “DOUBLE TIME SOLDIER!” He snickered as he made his way through, shoving his shoes on his feet and waiting for her patiently.
He turned his head to the side and quite obviously checked her out as she walked through towards him again. “God damn girl…” He said, offering her his arm and shutting the door behind her. He climbed into the drivers side as she slinked into the passenger side, staring the ignition. “Well…no I don’t know where it is…” He said as he screeched down the road and around the corner, looking around for anything that resembled a grocery store. “But a good old drive is always fun.”

She laughed as she thought of herself in a paper bag. She turned to look at him. "You know, that isn't that bad of an idea. We should try that sometime." She giggled. Her face quickly was covered as she pouted realizing he was faking. Aw, Come on.. you know you day dream about what I'm like it in. She gave him before slipping into the bathroom and changing. She heard a loud knock on the door and she jumped in fear. "HOLD YOUR HORSES" She yelled a bit from behind the door. She exited the door and gave him a cute smile. She loved the comments he made about her. They made her feel actually accepted. She ran her fingers through his hair a bit. God did he look good. She wouldn't want to admit it to him, but Shane in just a pair of boxers was her true dream. His body so defined, his eyes so gorgeous. She looked at him a bit, wanting to feel the touch of his lips again but shook it off as they walked to the car.
She laughed as they drove around finding nothing. It was true, simply driving around WAS fun. She turned up her annoying girly music, secretly hoping it'd piss him off. When it started to, she turned to him and stuck her tongue out. She turned back to the window. "THERE!" She screamed softly, still scaring the crap out of Shane. She spotted a grocery store, and continued to point till they pulled into the parking lot and parked. She quickly jumped out of the car. "Race you to the door." She laughed a bit and began running.
