Christian chuckled at her little joke, or what he assumed was a joke. He couldn't really imagine the young woman jumping into a lake without even removing her boots; but, you can't judge a book by it's cover. "I bet that's a sight to see," he returned with a smile and playful eyes.
Music played for another hour, pushing the clock to nearly midnight before they filed out of the Wreck Room and into the street. The crowd mingled around the entrance and along the sidewalk, obviously not in any hurry to return to the safety of their apartments, homes, or wherever else they decided to go. Christian once again felt the familiarity of his height, making him a tad more uncomfortable. However, when Lexi turned to look at him and started talking, he focused on her and his insecurity temporarily slipped away.
"I can't agree more." A genuine and soft smile crossed his lips and even played in his chocolate brown eyes. "Perhaps we can go again next week," he said. "Maybe get a bite to eat. Some blue crab salad or something," he added with a grin.
With that, he glanced up at the sky and the stars sparkling around the eclipse of the moon. It was a gorgeous night, and Christian felt a small hint of remorse at drawing the evening to a close. However, work would beckon in the morning and that alarm clock would sound pretty unpleasant if he waited any longer. Leaning forward to hug the younger woman around the shoulders, Christian said, "Be careful on your way home. Call me when you get back to your dorm so I know you made it home ok."
Giving her one last smile, Christian bid her farewell and they went their separate ways: Christian to his apartment complex and Lexi to her dormitory.
