Christian laughed, a full and complete laugh, right alongside with Alexia. Maybe it really was the alcohol pushing into their systems, making them more relaxed and inclined to find humour in their witty little retorts. Whatever it was, it was a comfortable situation to be in. Christian took a final sip of his martini before setting the drink back on the counter and running a hand through his dirty-blonde hair. "Don't hurt yourself," he said with a soft, but genuine, smile as she seemed to hold her stomach from the laughter.
He nodded in understanding when she spoke of home and travel. "I'm American through and through, I guess," he said. "I've only been to Europe twice, but even then it can't hold a permanent candle to this place. The architecture and history is incredible, but ultimately I think I'd be more comfortable living here than anywhere else, you know?" Christian had visited Paris and Barcelona, both times with his parents and sisters; he had loved every minute of it but was even more ecstatic to return the comfort of his Chicago suburb.
"Ah, training diets," Christian said with a sigh and arch of his eyebrows. "That's bound to be a barrel of fun." It was becoming more clear with each passing moment that Christian was lightening up. It wasn't just the martini, it was the easy aura Alexia seemed to possess. She was a genuinely sweet person from what Christian could tell and he was feeling more drawn to her than before. The conversation was easy and light, not filled with awkward pauses or random silences. It was nice.
The music began to play, a thumping bass and drums picking up a few beats later. The slower intro was quickly replaced with a heart-pounding guitar and the sound of the keyboard. A smooth, though vibrant, voice followed. The lyrics, or what could be heard of them over the sound of the crowd, were witty and sweet. It was a bit of a surprise to hear something romantic as opposed to sad, regretful melodies and choruses. Regret the currency of the realm in the modern music world, and though it had it's place, it was nice to see it replaced every once and awhile.
Once the song was over, Christian joined the crowd and clapped his hands in applause. His dark eyes flickered from the stage and band members to Lexi sitting beside him. "So far so good?" he queried curiously, watching her with a half-smile.

Oh, what a laugh Christian had, it was so amazing. It started like a low rumble of distant thunder, you knew something was coming when you heard it. Then a burst of sound, not too loud or annoying, just a reinforcement of the joy you could see on his face, and the sparkle in his eyes. It was all of this that Lexi was finding so attractive about Christian, and she found she wanted more, much, much more. But what did Christian want? Did he want the same thing? Maybe after some time, he would say something about it. It was still too early, she just needed to be patient. But she knew that she would look forward to that laugh, every time. "I'm okay, I'm okay!" she said, with a wide grin, and sparkling eyes.
Lexi listened attentively as Christian talked about traveling, and seeing parts of Europe. She had actually never been, she had wanted to go at one point. But it had never worked out, so she didn't have a way to compare the two cultures like he could. "I know what you mean, about being comfortable living here. I guess it's what you're used to, sort of like being home. It was different for me coming up here for school, coming from a smaller place, the lifestyle is faster up here. But I've grown to like it, and I do feel comfortable here now."
With a slight smile, and a roll of her chocolate eyes, Lexi takes a sip of her wine, and slowly shakes her head. She was enjoying being with Christian so much, he was so great, and fun, to be around when he wasn't so shy and withdrawn. What actually made him that way? And was there a way for her to find out? She would have to thing about that one for a while. "Oh yeah, soccer season, got to have your energy level up really high. Can't eat too many hot dogs, it will slow you down." With a playful wink, and teeth flashing smile, she teased him about his love of food. But she really wanted to spend more time, learning about what he loved, and what he didn't, about the simple things in his life. Like food.
As the band started, Lexi was pleasantly surprised by how good that band was, and how well they looked on stage. Christian had been right, why hadn't she been here before? She was going to have to make a point of coming there more often. Finishing off her wine during the performance, she joined Christian and the audience in their excited applause. Dark eyes sparkling, she turns to Christian with an excited smile, her thumbs raised to show how much she liked them. "Oh yeah! They are sooooo good! And not a hint of polka in that song at all!"

"Good," he said with a solid nod and tiniest possible hint of a smile. "I'm not in the mood for a trip to the hospital tonight." Christian could have a dry sense of humour when he desired it, though it was a rare sight to see. For some, it was a sight for sore eyes: Christian tended to be reserved unless he was around people he felt comfortable with. Only then could you really see him begin to lighten up and toss around some playful banter.
Christian nodded, smiling and idly running his fingers back and forth across the rim of his barstool. "Do you prefer New York over your hometown?" he asked with a slight tilt of his chin. It wasn't queried for the sake of conversation - he actually was curious what her preference was. He had never really been south, besides Florida, and didn't know much about the southeast side of the United States.
He smirked at her and shook his head at her teasing jest. "I imagine so," he said in agreement. "So soccer is worth skipping out on hot dogs, apparently," he added in a rather observant tone. He arched an eyebrow at her, tsking slightly in mock disappointment. "That's unfortunate." Christian was far from being considered an athlete; he never picked up sports in school, choosing to work on the newspaper and spend time with his musical interests instead. He had never really been on a diet before, either. His family had a naturally high metabolism that luckily passed down to him. He worked out occasionally, but it was far from being considered a diet or training program.
Christian laughed when she raised both thumbs at him. The smile on his face made it clear he was excited that she enjoyed them. He had never heard of the band until tonight, but being a slight music junkie, he'd probably end up getting a copy of their album if the next songs turned out to be any good. At her mention of polka he laughed. "Not yet, at least. Keep those fingers crossed." OOC: I didn't mention anything about the next song in case you wanted to get creative with it. =) Hope that's ok - if not just let me know and I can edit it in.

Chuckling slightly at Christian's dry humor, Lexi shakes her head, rolling her dark eyes, a small smirk plastered on her face. It was funny, she knew what a hospital trip in this city actually meant, and she didn't want to go through that again. "No, we don't want to that, you wait for hours for the doctor to tell you that you can't laugh for a week!" Which was true for most things that made you go to the hospital, Lexi just wanted to make it sound wittier. What a strange question for her, Christian was getting curious. Which was a good thing, this was the time in a relationship that you needed to find out more about the other person, and what they were like. They had already talked about his preferences for cities, and now it was her turn. "Well, there are things that I like about New York more than my home town. Charlottesville is really a college town, there is some manufacturing there, but not a whole lot. The night life is nice, but there is not as much, and not a lot of variety. And I wouldn't have a chance to work at a nice gallery, unless I was here. But I miss the smallness, and the easy access to getting away from the city, you know? Here, you have to ride a train, or get in a car, and ride for an hour, just to get away. I guess I like parts of both."Laughing at his simple teasing, Lexi holds her hands up, palms open, and gestures emphatically with them. "Well, I don't skip out on hot dogs totally. I just have to consume them in moderation. Like, not eat them for lunch everyday like you, apparently. I have to leave room for the cereal, fruits and vegetables, chicken, and lots of yogurt. You like yogurt, Christian?" Arching her fine brows, as she waits for his answer, Lexi wants to see if he would make a face or not. It would be so funny if he did, she might not stop laughing for a while. Lexi looks into Christian's dark eyes, still grinning, and crosses her fingers when he mentions it to her. She loved this banter that they had going, it was so different for her. Christian wasn't like anyone else she had met, he was so much more sophisticated, and intelligent. They were more like opposites, but she was starting to think of him as having potential. And she wanted to pursue this potential, to see where it would go. Turning back to the stage, the band is starting their next song, and it has caught her attention. It was a slow, catchy tune, a bass line that was simple yet melodic, with just the right accents from the drummer. The guitar playing was laced with power chords, and emphasized the bass line. The keyboard was rhythmic for the most part, but almost like a solo in the bridges. The vocals were sung with a simple clarity, the lyrics almost poetic nonsense, but it was the kind of tune that you would be singing to yourself, once you heard it. Lexi moves her head in time with the music, tapping her fingers on the back of the barstool. Glancing at Christian, she smiles, watching him getting into the music. She was going to have to find more things that he was interested in, and that they could do together, she was really enjoying this very much. ((hope that is okay! ))

Christian grinned at her comment on the hospital. She was correct. Although he had never, knock on wood, had to rush to the hospital since living in New York, he could only imagine the chaos and waiting. It wasn't necessarily the fault of the hospital staff. New York was full of people getting injured; waiting was just part of the aftermath.
"I know the feeling." Christian had remained quiet during her response, simply nodding and making small 'mhm' sounds when she paused in her phrases. Although Chicago was far from being considered a small town, the subdivision Christian grew up in was relatively low when it came time to count the population numbers. Growing up, Christian and his sisters had a few neighbours but nothing like the vast number he did now that he was in the city. Of course, living in a subdivision and living in an apartment are two separate worlds, but New York definitely had that "big city" feel to it. "But I never really lived in a place where the city wasn't at your heels. I can't really imagine living in the country or back on some deserted road." Christian smiled at her. "Not that I'm saying Charlottesville is low-key. I just can't imagine anything but city life."
Tossing the brunette a small smirk, Christian arched his eyebrows and brought his arm up to rest on the barstool. "I actually have a nice variety in my lunch menu, thanks." It was a jesting remark, more sarcastic than dry. It was a change for the journalist, but there's a first time for everything. He was far from serious; he was enjoying the playful tosses back and forth. "I do like yogurt," he added with a nod. "Just strawberry, though."
Music has always been considered the universal language. It was no different when Christian came to the Wreck Room. He could connect with just about anyone when the music began to throb in the room, pulsing through the walls and corridors and even shaking the seats when the bass was turned up enough. The band continued to play until their set was complete; they only pulled off another two songs before bringing their performance to a close. That was the only disappointment with the music club: you could only hear a few songs from each band unless you were paying for a ticket to see a real show.
Between bands was always a break. One of the stage managers spoke into the microphone, announcing that break down and set up would take about twenty-minutes and then the next band would be ready to perform. An upbeat and agile crowd roared in response before a lot of small groups separating and made their way to the bar where Lexi and Christian sat.
"You aren't getting tired, yet, are you?" he asked her with a queried expression and smiling eyes.

Lexi thought she understood part of what she found so attractive about Christian. He actually listened to you, when you spoke, none of this pretend crap that some guys used on you, just so they could get closer to you. The careful, thoughtful responses, the way he looked at her while she spoke, just made her feel a little more important, like she meant something to him. How had she been so lucky to run into him? As long as she didn't mess this up, maybe something would come out of it, and she could experience something she really hadn't had before. A relationship, friends or otherwise, with a true gentleman. Resting her chin in her hand, she watches him with her chocolate brown eyes, and smiles. "Well, I didn't live in the country, or on a deserted road. It was a suburban neighborhood, a large yard, with a white wooden fence. You had some small city life, or you could drive for half an hour, and be in the mountains. That is what I liked about it, you could have a little of both. Have you ever been up the Hudson valley, and seen some of the places up there? Quiet, secluded, outside around some trees. That is what I like, to be outside."
With a playful smirk, Lexi chuckles, she was enjoying this conversation with Christian. She wondered if his 'variety' in his lunches was whether he had relish on his hot dog or not. This could be really fun, to see how far she could go with this. "Oh, really? Is that variety just which hot dog vendor you are going to buy from for the day? And you only like strawberry yogurt? That's a shame, blueberry and vanilla are really good, too. I don't like the peach myself, it's just too... peachy." With her dark eyes showing her amusement at the exchange of words, she wondered how far he would take it. He was really loosening up, it was so different from when she first met him. And it was so refreshing.
As the band finished, and Lexi applauded with the rest of the bar, she turned to grin at Christian, looking at him with excited, dark eyes. She wanted to stay and hear the other bands play, so she was a little surprised by his question. Did he have to work early the next day? She hoped not, she didn't want the evening to end quite yet. "Oh no, I'm not tired at all! This is so much fun, I'm really glad I came. I don't want to keep you out all night, though, if you have to work early." Biting her lip, she was a little nervous that he did have to go. But she might stay anyway, and enjoy the rest of the show. But there was one other thing, and she wasn't going to confront him about it tonight. If he wanted to buy the drinks, she would let him, but Lexi was going to buy him something in return one of these days. Holding up her empty wine glass, she gives him an expectant smile. "I am getting a little thirsty, my glass seems to be empty. Is there something you could do about that?"

Christian nodded at the mention of the Hudson Valley. He never really vacationed around the New York area, but he had traveled there once with a friend during their freshman year of university. It was gorgeous but didn't really suit his tastes. Christian preferred the sound of cabs, accessible coffee shops and the comfort of his apartment complex. If he ever made a switch to country life, though, the Hudson Valley was the area to move to. "So you're an outside girl, hm? Are in you into the camping trips and swimming in lakes, or just hiking and such?"
Giving her a mild and gentle smirk, Christian shook his head at her question. "No," he countered with a smile. "Sushi, blue crab salad, smoked salmon... apparently I'm on a seafood kick," he said with a slight laugh. Christian wasn't usually a big fish fan, but salmon had become one of his primary meals in the past month. Once he got hooked on something, he tended to overdo it until it finally wore down.
"Yep, just strawberry." He grinned at her joke. Her eyes were dancing with amusement, making him return a warm smile. She seemed to so full of life and energy. Her laugh was melodic and he couldn't seem to reason why the comfort zone had seemingly rocketed since they stepped into the Wreck Room. It wasn't just the music - they just meshed together so easily. "Peachy keen," he added at random, grinning at her. "My nanny used to say that all the time when I was growing up." It wasn't really justification for his random statement, but it fell from his lips, nevertheless.
Christian shook his head with a frown. He wasn't ready to leave yet, either. "No, no, the night is young," he said. He saw her bite her lip, was she nervous? She seemed genuinely true to her word. He couldn't see a trace of desire to leave in her dark eyes when they landed on his own. "I normally try and stay for both sets, anyway," he added with a smile.
Arching his eyebrow at her in friendly jest, he glanced down at her wine glass before flickering his eyes back at Lexi. The expectant smile that lingered on her lips made him narrow his eyes, a smile touching the corners of his mouth. Not saying anything to her, just letting out a short laugh, Christian waved over the waitor and asked for another glass of wine. "Could you get me another martini, as well?" he queried. With a wave of the hand, the bartender took off and returned with new drinks in record-setting time. A satisfied, almost adorably-cocky, smile grew on Christian's features when he looked at Lexi and nodded towards her wine glass. Another quiet and short laugh followed.

More questions, Christian wanted to know more about her. Why did she find that so attractive? Well, who wouldn't find it to be, some hot guy wanted to know more about you, and was willing to ask questions. Wait, did she just think of Christian as a hot guy? Cheeks becoming slightly rosy, Lexi tries to keep her mind on their conversation, and looks into his brown eyes. "Yep. All of the above, just anything to be outside. And not afraid to get dirty, I can be girly-girly when I want, but I like to have fun outside. And that usually means getting in the dirt with the guys." Maybe she was going too far with that description, but would it put Christian off? Maybe he was looking for someone a little more delicate.
Her dark eyes sparkling with excitement, Lexi was pleasantly surprised that Christian was interested in seafood. It was one of her favorite types of food, and she was always on the lookout for a good place in the city to go. "Really? I like sushi, and salmon too. And where can you find decent blue crab salad? I've tried a couple of places close to the museum, it's not so great. I just don't spend enough time in the city to know where to go." She wanted him to show her some of his favorite places, she thought she could learn so much more about him that way. Maybe he would invite her out for lunch one day, she could make time for that, couldn't she?
Laughing lightly at his randomness, Lexi looks into his eyes, liking what she saw in them. She liked to see him smile, and she liked to watch him almost think of his responses, before he said them. He was so thoughtful, so intelligent, why shouldn't she feel good just to be with him? They were so relaxed with each other, and she didn't want it to end. It was that same feeling she had the other day with him in Starbucks, and she realized that she had missed having it, even though it had only been a few days. "Peachy keen? I haven't heard that one in a while, my grandma says it all the time." She wonders how her grandparents were doing, she would have to give them a call soon. Very soon.
Cheering on the inside, Lexi nods slowly, her brown eyes sparkling, she was glad Christian wanted to stay. "That's cool, I can stay as long as you want." Beaming, with a genuine smile, she watches him as he gets them another round of drinks. She just liked watching him sometimes, his mannerisms, the way he held his head just so, and the way he moved his hands. It just fascinated her, and made her think that she wanted to spend a lot of time with him. As she takes her wine glass, and laughs with him, and his expression, she lifts it in a toast. "To us enjoying the next band, I hope they don't have a polka streak in their bodies!" Chuckling at her own joke, she lifts the glass to her mouth, and looks into Christian's beautiful eyes, a slight smirk playing across her lips.

Christian laughed and cocked an eyebrow. "I wouldn't have really guessed you to be the outdoorsy type. Then again, first impressions aren't everything, I guess." He smiled warmly at her, leaning back against his chair and running his thumb across the smooth martini glass at his fingertips. "Do you like to hike?" he asked before taking a slow drink.
He shook his head idly while he thought. "There's a place two blocks from my apartment that is really good. I couldn't tell you the name to save my life, though," he said with a soft laugh. Running his hand across the back of his neck, he chewed his lower lip for a moment before realizing what he was doing and cleared his throat instead. Whenever he was thinking or trying to remember an important detail, he chewed his lip. His mother and nanny had constantly scolded him but the trait never left. Whenever he caught himself doing it in public, however, he put a stop to it. "Oh well. I'll let you know if I think of it later. Maybe we could go sometime; I'm sure it would taste better than anywhere else you've gotten it," he said with a smile.
"No class tomorrow?" he asked while they waited for the second band to get onstage and prepare for a performance. It wasn't uncommon for students to have a class free day. It was idle pleasant chat, but it was a useful question. It would tip in her favor if she was lucky enough to not have a class on Wednesday -- at least not an early morning class. Perhaps they could go to the Wreck Room together more often if she didn't need to rush and get back to school.
With a laugh, he lifted his glass with careful fingers and tipped it carefully towards her own. She was proving to be a better companion with each passing minute. Her eyes were sparkling and her sense of humour was quaint. She was quite a beautiful young woman, too. Christian didn't say anything else, but he watched her with smiling eyes and a slightly upturned lip.

Sipping at her wine, Lexi laughs with Christian, she couldn't help herself. That deep, rumbling laugh of his was very infectious for her, and she couldn't help but laugh with him, every time she heard it. He was asking some more questions, but she was willing to answer all of them, they weren't actually that bad. "Oh, really? And what was your first impression, Christian? You've seen me dressed well, the other day, and here tonight, I guess you could have thought I was some prep or sorority girl. And of course I love to hike! Pick a scenic trail, go for a day, a weekend, or a week, it's all fun! Do you like to hike too?" Maybe he did, and they could find a good spot to go sometime. And maybe she could feel brave enough to ask him to go.
Leaning her chin on one delicate hand, Lexi watches Christian trying to remember the name of the place he liked to go. The hand on the back of his neck, and the chewing of his lip, were all very cute mannerisms, and she could watch them forever. Smiling in return, she was pleasantly surprised when he suggested they have lunch together. Nodding softly, her brown eyes shining with anticipation, she doesn't want to appear to be too excited. "Oh, I would love to go, sometime! And I'm sure it would taste better than some of the fast food close to the museum. You would think there were more upscale places there, but they aren't really that many."
Shrugging her shoulders, she didn't want to give Christian the impression that she was going to miss class. She was actually pretty good about going to class, and getting her homework done. But she didn't mind staying late, mainly because she had no early class tomorrow. "Not until the afternoon, and I have to work at the museum after wards. And I have been known to stay out late, going to class on only a couple of hours of sleep. But I don't usually make a habit out of it." Why was it important for her to make a good impression on him? Was she trying to date, or even seduce him? Or just felt that she needed to appear more mature, and more sophisticated around him? She needed to figure out what she was doing, before she got too involved. But the more she talked to him, the more she wanted to be with him.
Sitting there in companionable silence, sipping on their drinks, and exchanging smiles, Lexi felt very comfortable around him. There had been some awkward moments before, but they had all faded away suddenly, and she felt none of that now. And his eyes had a little more emotion to them, a little bit of fire. She was truly enjoying this, and she sighed contentedly, forgetting about the other band for the moment.

Christian flexed the muscle in his jaw, his teeth chewing subtly on the inside of his cheek. "That's a trick question. That isn't fair," he said with a straight face, lifting an eyebrow at Alexia when she asked what his first impression was of her. Relaxing his posture enough to let his back touch the back of the barstool, Christian brought his drink to hover over his lap while he thought. He didn't really pinpoint any particular clique when he met people, so putting it into words was a hint difficult, even for a journalist.
"You seemed very put together, not too terribly concerned with the opinions of others but enough to avoid doing something completely reckless. Sweet, funny, a little unsure what you want to do in life but you know you're going to have fun getting there." Christian paused and raised his eyes to look at her with a barely visible, and almost uncertain smile. He didn't want to jump to conclusions if they were incorrect; he hadn't even realized he just rambled on for several seconds without pausing or even looking at her when he talked.
His shoulder raised in a shrug at her second question. "I've only hiked a few times, but it wasn't too bad. I'd probably do it again, but it isn't my favorite pastime. I'm a city boy," he said, smiling and resisting the urge to laugh. "I'm not big into camping or swimming in lakes, either." Christian's family was more likely to rent a yacht or take a cruise to Belize than go on a camping trip. It wasn't something he was raised to like, and acquired taste was far from the implanted adoration his family bestowed.
The corners of Christian's lips tugged into a small, quite "Christian-like" smile when he watched her listen to him. She placed her chin on her slender hand, watching and giving him her full attention. Her outwardly shining brown eyes were a contrast to his own dark, though warm, ones. The two seemed to share a good deal in common but an even greater deal in differences. But, somehow or another, they got along and enjoyed each other's company. It was a unique little bond that Christian was growing more and more fond of as the clock ticked on, though he was completely unaware of either circumstance.
"Ah," he said with a slow nod and smile. "Do you have a busy schedule this semester?" he asked, taking another drink of his martini and watching her with the same smiling eyes. Christian had completely packed his own semesters, especially after Rachel left. He didn't want any spare time to sit alone in his apartment and think about the solitude. Instead, he'd put nearly 20 hours into each semester after she disappeared, refusing to be left with the frightening reality of lonliness.

Lifting her eyebrows at Christian's protests, Lexi still has her chin on her hand. She watches his muscles flexing in his face as he thinks, and she finds it to be so cute and adorable. She was very tempted to reach out and touch his face, but she holds back, it was just not the right time. Were they just friends, or something more than that? Maybe she would know more, at the end of the night. As he describes her, a small smile curls the edges of her lips, and she liked the measured, carefully selected words that he used. It was almost like he was writing one of his newspaper articles about her, and it made her feel very special.
Was Christian going to laugh, talking about the outdoors like he did? Slightly disappointed when he didn't, Lexi actually chuckled a little, she thought that someone needed to drag him out to the country, and show him how much fun it could be. "Awww, that's too bad, you need to experience that at least once. There is nothing like a cool dip in the lake, after a long hike on a hot day. I've been known to just drop my pack, and jump in, not even bothering to change, or even take my boots off." Why did she say that last part? Was she trying to sound more personable, and not so aloof? She wasn't sure, but she hoped that he found it funny, and not too offensive.
Shaking her head slowly, shrugging her narrow shoulders, Lexi blinks her brown eyes. "No, not really. I'm full time, but it's still a lot of classes for my other requirements. History, math, humanities, thinks like that. And the work-study program. That actually takes up a lot of my time, along with soccer practice.I guess in a way, it is a full schedule. But it doesn't feel like it." She liked the way he looked at her with his eyes, they were very friendly ones. And her eyes reflected what she saw in his, a friendly, companion-like comfort in talking to him like this.
((skipping ahead))
As they exit the bar, along with the milling masses, Lexi thinks about the bands, and how much fun it had been with Christian. She didn't feel tired at all, which was good, she had a long ways to go to get home. But she needed to let him know how she felt, before they said goodnight. And would there be something else? She was trying not to anticipate anything, in case she was disappointed. Standing in front of the bar, her hands in her jacket pockets, she looks up at Christian's beautiful brown eyes, and smiles, almost beaming at him. "Hey, thanks, Christian, I had such a wonderful time. The music was fantastic, and I really enjoyed talking to you. I would like to do that again, sometime." And now she waited, what would he say? She was a little nervous, she really wanted to know what he was thinking. Biting her lip slightly, a gleam still in her eyes, she just didn't want to be disappointed. And she hoped that he felt the same way about her.
