I live to pass time It makes sense in my mind But that's not a reason To keep this weak heart beating ------ It was nearing 11pm, and the last thing this boy should have been doing was drinking coffee. His eyelids were droopy from a long day job hunting and trying to figure out what he was doing with his life. Dylan hated the fact that he was being pushed away from his dream, but the bills were piling up, and his father was losing his patience. Dylan had originally moved to New Jersey and attended the University his sister was currently enrolled at, but dropped out after only a couple months of class. He wasn’t into drugs or stupid, as stereotypes have labelled him because of his “drop-out” status. No, he just didn’t feel University life was for him. He wanted more out of life then sitting behind a desk all day or teaching ungrateful kids, which is where his degree would surely have led him. Dylan’s one true love was music, and I know what you’re thinking, about how it’s such a typical story. Spoiled rich kid has some talent and needs to ride it all the way to the bank, but Dylan isn’t like that. He’s not in it for the fame or fortune, he simply loves the way a melody can tell a story, the way lyrics flow the way they do out of his pen, how being on stage is the biggest high he could ever get.
Sadly, however, his out-look was changing, and his wallet becoming more and more empty. His father, keen to be on the boy’s good side, agreed to help him out, pay his rent and provide for his lifestyle, but that was when Dylan had gigs lined up and was making some kind of effort. Lately, his attitude has become lazy, his inspiration facing a block. It’s been weeks since he’s written new material and all he’s done is laid around his house and gotten frustrated at the lack of inspiration.
So, here he was sitting around the coffee shop as it neared closing time, and drinking coffee, his substitute for alcohol. Don’t get me wrong, the boy isn’t necessarily against drinking at all, his preferred poison however is taken black and in a mug rather then a bottle or shot glass. Dylan rubbed his eyes, and scanned around, the shop nearing empty and a lonely waitress hastily scrubbing tables. She smiled over at him as she caught him sending a glance her way and he smiled back, before turning his eyes to his hands which were wrapped around the mug, being warmed by the heat of the coffee.
He had been out today, sending his not-so-impressive resume to businesses and local shops, looking for a part-time position to prove to his father that he could actually survive on his own and then he would go back to what life had been before, laid-back and enjoyable. Sighing, he took a sip of the coffee and watched the door, curious if anyone else would be joining him.

Man Liz was exhausted today, she worked the entire day, well maybe half the day from 2-10:40, she walked outside and started to get ready to close down the front area as her boss specifically told her to do so. She was just about done anyways, she changed about fifteen minutes ago because she didn't want to be like that in her work clothes when she went home. Her clothes now was just simple, but she had her smock wrapped around her waist so she wouldn't get her jeans dirty. She hated this job sometimes at night, it was only part time, because she was at school most of the time. The local small cafe was where everyone went for lunch, everyone was so busy getting things for there work, ordering food all the time to carry out. Liz was a waitress and part time trainer, she got paid quite decently, her boss wasn't in too good of a mood today because some guy was hitting on Liz today, she was disgusted because he did it in such a distasteful way and he literally got kicked out of the cafe. Oh well he deserved it anyways. She also just got hired at the new club in Huntley not too far away called "Coyote Ugly," she was definitely a new girl there, and worked only on weekends late at night. She was tired, sometimes she wished that she wouldn't work and just be rich for a living, but that didn't happen just like that. Lifting up her head, Liz rolled her head so she could let it go to relax mode while she cleaned. She took her towel, and had about ten minutes or five minutes left for one more table, she felt someone looking over in her direction so she lifted up again and this time looked over by the Coffee Bean, she needed that tonight, definitely. She caught some guys eye he was cute, very cute, tall, dark hair, probably had good abs like Dean did, which she couldn't stop thinking about him. Then receiving a call from the inside she put her head down after smiling at him for a few seconds, " Liz you may go now! I'll see you on tuesday ok? Have a safe weekend! See you!" She heard one of the managers say to her, she nodded, and waved at the guy, and went back inside as she did she took off her apron [smock], and tossed it behind the counter. She wanted to listen to her ipod but that she would do later. Her car parked not too far away from the place in the parking lot complex down the corner, even though it was late, she usually had her friend to walk her to her car. But tonight she wanted coffee, and a vanilla bean frappuccino sounded really really good. She smiled and closed the cafe door behind her with her purse, her keys, and her sweater on, she decided to cross the street now since there were no cars and headed to the coffee place. Seeing the guy sitting outside in the tables she thought she would join him in a minute. She smiled at him and nodded, then went to the clerks inside, and ordered her vanilla bean frappuccino. Taking her cold frap blended drink, she grinned paying for it she walked back outside. Stopping in front of the guy as she opened the door, she asked, " Hi....Would you mind if I joined you?" She asked him with a sweet smile and cute tone of voice, she was still cute inside even when she's older everyone thought she was younger then she looked. {Hope it's ok.}

maybe in another time, you could have been mine expand your wings and fly and look to the sky ---- Dylan sighed, as he sat by himself. All he ever seemed to do lately was feel sorry for himself and act like a little lost puppy in the mass of the world. He really had no place, no purpose, or at least that’s the vibe he seemed to give off lately. Really, the boy has an immense amount of purpose and if he just applied himself, he could figure that out and prove everyone, especially his father, his biggest critic, they were wrong, that he could survive on his own and the education he gave up was not a mistake. He wanted his reputation to be more then the quiet, mature kid who dropped out of University, just because it wasn’t “for him”. People around here might get it, but his family far from understood.
He tapped his fingers against the mug and watched as a girl came over from across the street, nodding at him before heading to the bar to order her coffee. Dylan smiled back, and a feeling of familiarity came over him. The girl looked familiar, and although in this city that never meant much, the nagging feeling that she was someone he actually knew was at the back of his mind. "Hi....Would you mind if I joined you?" He smirked, looking up at here as she asked if she could join him. The face was most definitely one he new, and it took a second for him to remember the name that went along with it.
”Elizabeth Darcy, you should know you never have to ask!” he said, a light laugh in his voice, hoping the girl in fact realized who he was and he didn’t appear to be some random creep hanging around the local coffee place late at night. He gestured to seat across from him, letting her know that she could in fact join him. Dylan knew Liz from back in California, where he had grown up. They were good friends in high school and she was also victim to one of his crushes. He’s shy and has always been shy, and back in high school it was no different. They were friends, so he had some contact with her, but he wouldn’t be surprised if she had never been aware about his feelings. Instead of acting on them he always had the tendency to hold back, letting things work out on their own. He moved on from his crush and entered a relationship, which would be his first and only serious long-lasting relationship to date.
”How have you been?” he asked, curious to what she had been up to last couple years.

She turned around to sit down when he said, ”Elizabeth Darcy, you should know you never have to ask!” She grinned, she knew who this was now, wait a minute, Dylan? She widened her eyes a bit, "Oh my goodness! If it isn't Dylan! How are you?" She asked while sipping her Vanilla Bean frap, yum she loved coffee bean, it was so much then starbucks sometimes. "I mean where have you been? I haven't seen you in ages! And now you turn up here in New Jersey of all places?!" She giggled and blushed a little bit.
Yes she may have had a crush on him for a little while, but she didn't act on it because even though Liz was friendly she sometimes never acted on her crushes just flirted with them. If someone would notice her then she would allow them to notice her. ”How have you been?” She smiled at him while sipping and then let go of the straw. "I've been great actually, traveling back and forth from California to New Jersey and London, it's been wonderful traveling! I love it! Honestly though I'm fine, I just turned twenty one a little while ago," She grinned biting her lips and licking the juice that fell on it from the drink.
During Highschool Liz was the popular one but she just didn't think of herself to be popular still in college. Yes she worked at Coyote Ugly, but no one was supposed to really know about that. No one. You weren't supposed to bring the guys you liked to the bar, because they would get jealous, which was the number the one rule. You never disobey the boss either, which was the second. She sighed thinking how tired she had been from working all week and going to school. "But other than that, I'm so tired from work and school, what about you? Your in college and work?" She questioned politely and shyly, so what if she wanted to get to know him again, there was no harm in that.

While letting you in, I'll be thinking about tomorrow. And every time we cross those lines. ---- He smiled as she sat down, exclaiming over how they hadn’t seen each other and asking where he’d been. ”Wow, small world, eh? But, I’ve been good,” he went with the standard answer, even he may not have been so good lately. No likes here about your baggage when you’re seeing each other for the first time in a good while. ”I’ve been here, well mostly in New York, but I was in the neighbourhood and craving a cup of coffee and stopped in. I can’t believe this, it seems like it’s been forever,” he was rambling now and stopped himself, slightly embarrassed. Sipping his coffee, he listened to what she had been up to, nodding with approval.
”Well happy belated!” he replied, embarrassed once again, this time at the fact that he hadn’t remembered her birthday would have just passed. Dylan, is weird. He takes pride in stuff that may not matter to others, he liked personal details, he liked getting to know people. Okay, maybe not so weird, but he was certainly different then other kids his age, only concerned with getting laid and waking up on time for class. ”But, travelling, that’s awesome. You always were the jet-setter type,” he smiled at her, taking another sip of his coffee, that was beginning to cool.
He nodded as she said she was tired from work and school. ”Oh, do you go to Rutherford U?” he asked, curious if she did and amazed at the fact that they had been in the same place for so long and yet to see each other. He shook his head at her question. ”Technically, I’m not in either,” his voice going quiet. Dylan always seemed so unworried by the fact of where he was in life, but truthfully he hated admitting it. While he knew that he, as well as those close to him, were aware of what he was trying to do, others heard college drop-out and assumed he was stupid and hooked on drugs. Neither of which was the case for Dylan.
”I actually went to school but dropped out a little while ago,” he decided to let it be known sooner then later, he also made an effort to show that he wasn’t disappointed in his decision. ”It just wasn’t my deal,” he shrugged his shoulders, smirking at her. ooc; sorry it's kinda bad >.<

”Wow, small world, eh? But, I’ve been good. I’ve been here, well mostly in New York, but I was in the neighbourhood and craving a cup of coffee and stopped in. I can’t believe this, it seems like it’s been forever,” She grinned nodding profusely, " Yea small world.....But everyone knows each other in California, you know that.....This is a small city, people leave and go all the time,"She explained as she took more sips. " I know it has....what since my sophomore year...How old are you now?" She asked, like it really had seemed forever. They really hadn't spoken to each other since, just kept in contact through emails every once in awhile. ”Well happy belated! But, travelling, that’s awesome. You always were the jet-setter type,” She shook her head, and scanned her eyes behind him if anyone was around. It seemed kinda not so busy right now. " Thank you, it was actually March 1st, and yea, travelling is awesome, I love it. Ha ha I know wasn't it? Travelling was my dream,"She explained some more. Liz was always the adventurous type, she was never lazy, if she was then she would do something so she wouldn't be. She would hate herself if she ever like that. ”Oh, do you go to Rutherford U? Technically, I’m not in either," She nodded again. Doing all that nodding kinda hurt your head a bit especially when your drinking something so cold. " Yea I do...I'm a Senior, and graduating the end of this semester, oh....Ok....Why what happened? I thought someone like you would be going there.....Your smart, intelligent, fun, energetic sometimes," She teased, and playfully touched his arm as she placed her cup down on the table. She was almost done with her drink, but she didn't want to be because then she would feel like leaving home. ”I actually went to school but dropped out a little while ago, it just wasn’t my deal,” She shrugged, people were like that too, she didn't care because no matter he was still a friend, and if he wanted to be that way she would be happy for him. " That's ok, some people are just not into it, trust me.....I know, are you working full time though?" She asked as they flirted and talked a little as well. {OMG so bad sorry. }

A penny for your thoughts but a dollar for your insides Or a fortune for your disaster I'm just a painter and I'm drawing a blank ---
”Travelling was my dream," he nodded at her, raising the mug of coffee to his lips and taking a drink, the hot liquid stinging the inside of his mouth. ”I remember,” he nodded again, a smirk coming to his lips. Travelling was never something he had a big interest in. Seeing new places was interesting, true, but planes were never exactly something that Dylan liked to spend lots of time on. He wasn’t sacred of flying or anything, but after two hours he had had enough, he couldn’t imagine spending much more time then that. ”But that’s awesome. Living your dream! Good for you,” he was proud, anyone doing what they wanted with their life was living the life in his books. He was, in the long run, living his dream, he just had to get over a few obstacles still.
”Why what happened? I thought someone like you would be going there.....Your smart, intelligent, fun, energetic sometimes,"
The blood rushed to his face and his cheeks become a light twinge of red as she said that. Years ago, had she said that to him, Dylan would have been bursting with happiness at the fact that she noticed something about him. Now, it was just his inability to take compliments well that caused his cheeks to redden. Hoping she didn’t notice, he smiled weakly up at her. ”Well, I was accepted, and went for a couple months, attended classes and stuff. I was majoring in English. But, it just didn’t click with me, you know?” he paused for a second, taking another sip of his coffee. ”I decided that school just wasn’t what I wanted at the time. I’m trying to break into the music industry now,” he laughed nervously. ”I know, it seems every Californian kid tries it at some point, but it’s something I’m really passionate about, so, hopefully it’ll work out.” he shrugged, leaning back. Dylan smiled as she reassured him that it was okay.
“are you working full time though?” ”Uh, not exactly. I should be though, as my father doesn’t seem to want to pay for much anymore, not that I need a lot of money to get by, but still,” it was funny, he had no problem admitting that his father paid for him and yet telling people about dropping out of University was usually quite hard for him. You’d think that an independent guy like Dylan would hate to admit that he still took his father’s, who he was not too fond of, charity. ”It’s actually why I was in the neighbourhood, job-hunting.”

"I remember,” Liz always thought about being a flying attendant, or something or other. She smirked when he said he remembered, she wanted to know what else he remembered. Maybe more than she knew. ”But that’s awesome. Living your dream! Good for you,” She giggled, "Thanks, I know it is. I have so many pictures, maybe I'll show you sometimes. It's so fun, going to London and back, that's where I live, well my parents live there, I moved up here in California back in the days," She said with an exaggerating sigh. It was true, it had been so long since they talked.
When she complimented him, she saw the tint in his cheeks, ”Well, I was accepted, and went for a couple months, attended classes and stuff. I was majoring in English. But, it just didn’t click with me, you know? I decided that school just wasn’t what I wanted at the time. I’m trying to break into the music industry now,” She snickered, "Oooo music...You might have to sing me some songs if you are doing anything at the moment? Or maybe tomorrow? we could hang out somewhere?" She asked suddenly, she didn't know why she did. But then again tonight would be good too, it is late, and she wanted to go home and take a nap or something. He could come over.
”I know, it seems every Californian kid tries it at some point, but it’s something I’m really passionate about, so, hopefully it’ll work out. Uh, not exactly. I should be though, as my father doesn’t seem to want to pay for much anymore, not that I need a lot of money to get by, but still," He paused and said something else. "Yea. It's ok, at least your honest with me, I like a guy who's honest. You know? I hate lliars. Cass was such a liar sometimes, I could see it in his teeth. Remember Cass? My ex?" She questioned, and looked around to see if she saw anyone else around.
"It’s actually why I was in the neighbourhood, job-hunting.” She nodded, "Oh I see...Well I could help you with that, we are looking for a waiter or a manager across the street? Except I only work on weekdays, only." She said happily, because she worked at one of the craziest bars in the weekend. But she didn't want to brag about that.
{Bleh sorry, and it's ok.}
