Ah, the lake. How could someone not like it? The water, the sand, the nature, and of course nature's beauty. It has something for everyone, whether they want to swim, build sandcastles or take beautiful pictures. Teddy needed some sort of escape from the world, and this seemed as good as any. Only a short distance away from the campus, and the day being as nice as it was...why not?
After a quick shower, dressing and grooming himself and packing a couple things he was out the door. He'd dressed himself in a plain black t-shirt, along with black swimming trunks and his running shoes. The shoes didn't mesh well with the outfit, but he just grabbed them as he left. It's not like he'd be wearing them much on the beach anyways. As of the moment, he was standing at the edge of the water. His small bag of stuff, his shoes, and his shirt were set a close distance away from the water. Teddy looked out on the open water, watching a few pelicans land on the surface. 'The beauty of being a bird. I wonder what it'd be like to be one of them.' How many times had he asked himself that question? It'd never be answered, either.
He sat himself down on the wet sand at the water's edge, and let himself get lost in everything there was to see. A slight, warm breeze made his hair dance every now and again. Teddy turned his head to a couple small kids playing in the water. He always liked his childhood, way before the bullying ever happened. So carefree, happy, and open to anything. Of course, all of that changed when the dreadful year hit when everyone decided Teddy wasn't a good person. He let out a deep sigh, as he thought to himself, 'Oh what I'd give to be that age again...'

Evelyn's childhood was just a meaningless blur to her. She chose not to remember any bit of it because really nothing was worth remembering. From elementary school through high school she felt nothing at all. She was as some like to call 'the porcelain doll' or 'the porcelain princess'. Some people thought she was so stuck up and conceited that she didn't care to even talk to anyone else around her and said she was nothing but cold hearted which was so untrue.
She only blocked people away because she was scared. She was honestly scared of being hurt again. Everyone she had ever known had disappointed her. All of her friends from high school, besides Rebecca, had all left her but the few she'd met at Rutherford University she truly loved.
Her eyes were full of tears as she walked down the long sidewalk at the lake. She'd been sniffling and crying all day over another stupid boy. They seemed to be getting the best of her these days because she was letting herself become vulnerable and let people in to her heart and give them a change but only to find out they'd rip her to pieces. She tried to hold her cigarette steady as she took a drag and then exhaled it. She noticed a somewhat familiar figure down by the waters edge as she paused. "T-T-Teddy?" she finally managed to say as she stood there.

Teddy's eyes followed the young kids in the shallow water, as he sat at the edge. They were quite a distance away, so he could look at them for a while and not seem scary or stalker-ish. Finally, he pulled his eyes away and watched the water again for a while. 'The lake. What a mysterious place. I mean, everyone knows what's inside. It's not an ocean, where the depths are way beyond what anyone knows. But a lake is different. Everyone knows what's there, yet not many people explore it. Who can actually say he's been to the bottom of a lake? What if there's more to lakes than we know?'
He took a deep breath in through his nose, the scent of the beach filling it. He liked that smell, whereas most people didn't. Suddenly, his ears picked up noise behind him. He became alert, and less relaxed as seconds before. He thought he heard movement, which caused him to tense up a bit. It always scared him when he heard unknown movement.
When he heard the voice though, he let his body relax a little. He picked himself up to his feet, and turned. Brushing the sand off of his shorts, he saw Evelyn. He immediately knew she'd been crying, and his eyes filled with worry. "What's wrong, Bubbles?" he asked, using the nickname he had for her. Whenever she was in a good mood, she always seemed so happy, upbeat, and bubbly; hence Bubbles. He took a few steps towards her, his fists clenching habitually. Teddy would do anything for his friends, especially when certain people made them cry like Evelyn was doing right now. Even if it was a female, he'd take a layer out of her verbally.

The tears were now streaming down her face and she looked nothing short of a mess. She was so relieved that Teddy was there. He was one of her best friends and she didn't know how she would face the world without him. As soon as he walked over she ran over to him threw her cigarette to the ground and wrapped her arms tightly around him and let her head rest against his shoulder as she let the tears roll down her cheeks. She couldn't say a word all she could do was hold on tightly to him and try and forget about that guy because he was nothing. He meant nothing at all, oh how she only tried convincing herself that.
She felt a slight cold breeze as she suddenly lifted her head off of his shoulder but didn't bother letting go of him. "I-I.." she began to say and shook her head a bit. "..another boy. Am I really that stupid Teddy?" she said and took in a deep breathe trying to forget all about it but that was somewhat impossible. She leaves her heart open for those little boys to come in and rip it in to little pieces and then let them laugh in her face. 'You're nothing but a useless whore and that's all you ever will be' was what he said and she'd never forget it, ever. She took in a deep breathe as she looked at him and shook her head. "..I believed it. I let them get to me.." she whispered as she gazed in to Teddy's forgiving eyes that always seemed to comfort her.

Teddy's muscles immediately relaxed, once she'd ran towards him. He felt her grab on to him, and he did the same again; immediately. He wrapped his arms around her small waist in a tight hug, before loosening his grip. He kept her in his arms though, even when she pulled her head up off of his shoulder. He knew she needed comforting right now, even if he didn't know why yet.
He took a deep breath in, hearing the problem she had today. "Aw, Evelyn." he said, in a comforting tone. He pulled his hand up and cupped her chin briefly in his hand; in a friendly way, not a boyfriend-type way. "You're not stupid." He didn't know what else to say though. I mean, she had been galavanting with guys for a while now. He couldn't say that it'd be okay, since he couldn't promise something like that. He couldn't say that the boy probably took advantage of her, since she probably met him half way on that front. He knew Evelyn was his best friend, but he couldn't deny she was a little bit of a whore. Of course, he'd never actually say that to anyone. His hand returned to her mid-back, and pulled her into a hug again.
"Bubbles, I know that with the situation I should be comforting you right now. But I don't know why you put yourself out there like that. You should use your beauty in a positive way, and make boys chase you. Because you know they'd be lining up. Instead of just giving it away right away...you know?" He said all of this in a quiet, sensitive tone; not accusing her of anything. Just telling her what she needed to be told, at one time or another.

She just listened to everything she had to say and nodded. He was right, she was giving herself away too easily but it all seemed right when she was drunk and her feelings became much bigger then she thought they were. "..I can't control my drinking.. it's getting me in to this mess.." she said as she shook her head and held on to him tightly. "Teddy I'm so stupid. Why am I doing this? It's not me.." she whispered as she held him close and layed her head back down on his shoulder.
She didn't understand why she was doing this. She was a totally different person when she was under the influence and it was easy to tell. The next morning she'd wake up with a huge hangover and a nasty ass guy laying next to her and she'd run away before he even woke up. She hated what she was doing, she really did. She had lost herself in the trends of today and it was quite a pity to see such a pretty girl let herself go so easily.

Teddy held on to her tightly, his hands running up and down her back gently. He was trying his best to comfort her, but also be real with her at the same time. It was a hard balance, but he seemed to be managing it as best he could this time. He was glad that he was keeping his thoughts and frustrations wrapped up inside of him right now. That's why he came to the beach, he wanted to just think about things, and hopefully figure it out. But he shoved those to the back of his mind, since they weren't as important as Evelyn's problem of right now.
"Alcohol does freaky things to a person," he started, choosing his words carefully. "It can take a funny, smart, beautiful girl like you, and turn it into an ugly person with a blurred responsible side." He wasn't trying to put her down, and he hoped that's not how she would take it. He was trying to put alcohol down. "You know how bad alcohol is for you. I mean, I guess I have had my fair share of drinks, so I shouldn't be talking. But it does weird things to a person." He sighed lightly, as he watched the group of young kids and a couple adults walk away from the beach.

"I hate that ugly girl I've become." she said and looked in to his eyes. It was sad that it took her best friend to tell her this and to really point it out to her when it was right in front of her face. She just nodded and held on to him. It wasn't new to be this close to him because she'd done this all the time and had a crush on him before but that soon faded away. "..I'm sorry I haven't called you lately and I've been doing all this and I.." she said as she shook her head and wiped away her remaining tears and smiled happily at him.
"I'm sorry I haven't been bubbles lately." she said and let out a laugh as she hugged him tight and let her head rest on her shoulder. She felt so comfortable with him. She could just tell him anything and she knew he wouldn't judge her for it but just try and comfort her. That's why he was one of her best friends. Along with Riley.

Teddy took a deep sigh, as he listened to her words. It was true, she hadn't been Bubbles lately. He certainly liked Bubbles better, than the person she was now. Drinking all the time, and sleeping with a lot of guys just to be let down in the morning. It hurt him to watch Evelyn sell herself short like that, but he did all he could now. Just tell her he doesn't like it, and see what happens. He can't watch her everyday, make sure she doesn't go out and drink.
"I can't deny that I've been seeing changes in you, Bubbles." he said. His hands finally stopped on her mid-back once more. He liked that they could hug and hold each other when one was sad; and think nothing of it accept a friend helping a friend. "And I can't deny that I hate them. I want my Bubbles back." he said, quietly. He wasn't sure why he'd said the last part; it sounded a little childish. But it felt right to say it.

She laughed and held on to him tightly. She too was glad they could hold on to each other all they wanted and both of them thought nothing of it. "I know I haven't been Bubbles.. I'll stop drinking so much.. or try to." she knew that it wouldn't be an over night change but maybe she'd start to change quickly. She knew she was scaring him and herself with all the drinking and sleeping with guys she'd been doing. "I'm so sorry." she whispered as she kissed his cheek gently and held on to him tightly.
She laughed and then looked up at Teddy once more. "C'mon tell me what's been going on with you Teddyy bear?" she asked as she laughed a bit and smiled at him. "I'm sorry for totally disappearing lately.."

Teddy took a deep, refreshing breath in. "I'm holding you to that promise." he said, and nodded. He was being serious with that comment. He wasn't afraid to get angry with his friends; if they did something bad enough. And if Evelyn kept it up, he'd probably end up getting mad. He hugged her tightly once more, before letting her go.
"Come on, let's walk down the beach." he offered, and tugged gently on her arm; making her start walking. "And I've been missing the Teddybear & Bubbles duo. They're fun." he added. He too had lost sight of the 'Teddybear' side of himself. No, he wasn't drinking or getting high, or cutting himself. He had just changed over the past couple days, and became absorbed in his music; even more than usual. "Otherwise, the usual. Working on my songs, and such. I wrote a new one, that I don't think you've heard." Evelyn was the only person so far that he shared his own songs with.

"Oh I can't wait to hear the new song." she said and nodded. Teddy's songs always got her excited because he was such a talented artist. "I've also been missing our dramatic duo. We were beating!" she said and laughed as she walked with him towards the beach. She twirled around in front of him and laughed. "I love being care free." she said and giggled as she stopped and then smiled at him.
She was glad that Teddy shared his music with her because she loved it and she was really proud of him. "You know you should let more people hear your music. They'd love it. I'm assuring you." she said and nodded as she flashed him another smile and then pulled her hair out of it's ponytail and spun around happily. "I missed my bubbly side." she said and smiled at him as she took both of his hands and laughed.
