Saturday afternoons always detained something for the Rutherford Junior; Christopher Stratton did his homework, indulged himself in toying with his model trains, tinker with videos he has made with his mother’s camcorder, or even sneak off on his own to a market day down at one of the ovals. All of which were unidentified interests of his to many that he knew, especially the latter. Picking up miscellaneous items from what went before, noteworthy items that might be of interest to him and that he could research, were always a pleasant delicacy for a slow Saturday. This Saturday his concentration was intended on going down to the bookstore and finding a particular edition of Model Trains: The Steamers Guide, a book he had been hanging out for, for over an entire month. That was an extensive and traumatic point in time in which he bit his nails with every given day that put him in the neighborhood of getting it.
His formal procedure when going out was moderately effortless: spick and span, adequate and light clothes. Now that the warmer months were approaching he was inclined to wear something appropriate today was quite sunny and looked liked it could brighten anyone’s face, shorts and shirt were required. He showered as soon as he woke; checked himself out in the mirror. Run a brush once or twice over his hair to remove his muddled morning bed hair that he didn’t attend to until he really needed to, brushed his teeth and gave his face a quick wash over with a cloth before opening the cabinet and putting on some attractive aftershave scent. There was no harm in smelling good as well as looking good, right? After all, he was going to the bookstore to get one of the most esteemed possessions in his life. The only problem was, Jackie, his ex-girlfriend from his freshman year worked there and things were always gauche between them. Chris could only pray that she did not have a shift that afternoon. However, he was wrong.
Christopher’s eyes fell upon the girl upon entering the store that was planted right near the entrance of Rutherford’s Mall and they briefly smiled at one another in passing. Jackie was serving another male customer, which rather made his blood run hot and cold, he was not accustomed to seeing her interact with other guys other than him after their three month relationship had broken up just before their summer break began and he hadn’t seen her since then. Not even in the bookstore. Jealousy had never been a big thing with Christopher and he should not have let it get to him in that moment, mostly he was just envious of the fact that he could not pluck up the courage to talk to her, she looked so good now. Chris turned between the rows shelves gliding down toward the hobbies section as though he were walking on air. Now he could not see her at all and his attention became more enlightened when he came across his beloved magazine. The junior collected it and unhurriedly began to draw near the service counter, the publication and Jackie being the two things in the front of his mind. What was in the region of his body was another matter though; he paid no heed and managed to collide with another girl.
“Oh!” Chris’ magazine fell to the floor and he stepped back and fell onto his behind, “Yikes!” His head hit the shelf and he winced hard.

"I'm just here to find a freaking book why do I have to run in to every ex boyfriend I've ever had?!" Evelyn shouted out receiving some rather odd looks from the bystanders in the book store. The girl was on a rampage all because of a simple book she had to pick up for her British Literature class. Simple enough right? Eve always had a way with making things a lot harder then they were. In the short thirty minutes that she had been at the Huntley mall she'd managed to run in to three of her ex boyfriends and of course lucky number four Michael just walked in to the book store. Evelyn's eyes searched the rows of books just looking for the one she was after which of course she couldn't even remember. She was so busy cursing at herself and everyone else that she had forgotten. The girl had issues - plain and simple. Michael was approaching - GREAT. Evelyn quickly began to walk the other way until she ran right smack in to another boy. She felt to the ground and layed there as she stared up at the ceiling. "Why me.." she mumbled as she looked up to see Michael standing over her. "Nice one Evie." he said with a laugh as she noticed another girl on his arm - Brit. She rolled her eyes as she slowly pulled herself up as she sat there on the ground glancing around a bit. She pulled down her white collared shirt as she looked down at her legs which were covered slightly by a pair of khaki short shorts. She was looking rather okay today with a necklace around her neck and a simple enough outfit. She glanced over at the boy she'd bumped in to see that he was rather cute looking. She had to come up with a plan to make Michael jealous. "She pulled him close to her quickly and kissed him on the lips hard. "..be my boyfriend for the next five minutes?" she said looking in to his eyes desperately. It's official the girl has problems. Sorry it totally sucks. Next will be better!

Making an impact had become a very substantial part of Christopher’s life. He managed to do so on a day-to-day basis, living, learning and loving everything in his path and ensuring that he, or it, took notice of what was on offer. Jackie had been on offer to him in that freshman year and she took the bait without even noticing that she was hungry. However, it seemed that things were becoming simpler for the guy; all he had to do was turn around and bump into a girl to get a kiss nowadays. Simple enough he supposed, but the notion still shocked him. Bumping into the girl had been one thing; the hit to the heat was another. The confused gaze in his eyes showed as his big brown orbs readjusted and Chris rose to his feet and collected up his book.
The junior really did not have a chance to decline, the girl rather swooped him up as if he was some kind of prey and there was rivalry lurking around. The solitary contest he had was with himself, trying to figure out whether, after a good two years, he had gotten over his first true love interest or if he wanted to try and win her back. Not the commotion of some other quarrelsome ex-couple. Rather than have a say, the wheels were in motion, along with his spinning head, and he was thrown into the scene before he could object. And what made his head spin even more, was the obviously intentional kiss that she planted on his lips. The taste of her lip gloss was a little enticing and but the kiss they shared, as strangers he might add, was completely astounding, to say the very least.
"..be my boyfriend for the next five minutes?"
Christopher could hardly decline the request given by the girl; he was stunned, immobile and feeling exceptionally sympathetic toward her. Not only because the look on her face was enough to say that she looked like the kind of girl to obtain what she wanted, but because he was still spinning and dazed by the kiss. That and a gaze of shear desperation, which enforced him to feel sorry for her; he knew what she was going through. Though the fellow arm in arm with what was obviously his girlfriend was far from something, she wanted and was likely to be the one thing that she was trying to avoid. They had something in common he could grant them that, both trying to avoid a very sticky situation. Christopher studied her shortly, while they had a brief gap in time, she was very attractive and would not take a rain check on her offer.
“Sure..” He replied, completely dumbfounded.

She could tell the boy was obviously confused and she'd probably scared him silly but she was desperate and he just happened to be good looking and well there. For all she knew that girl he'd been eying was actually his girlfriend and she could have gotten him in to a lot of trouble. She looked over to Michael and Brit who seemed rather amused by Eve's act. "Eve..don't embarrass yourself.." Brit said with a small laugh as Evelyn sent her a glare that would make her go cold. "..oh Brit I thought I saw you twin the other day. You know the girl with the red horns growing out of her head?" Eve said and rolled her eyes. She glanced over to Christopher - god she didn't even know his name. "Who's your friend Eve?" Michael asked as he looked Christopher up and down. "None of your fucking business asshole." she managed to spit out as she glared at him and grabbed a hold of Christian's hand and let him away from them towards the back of the store. As soon as they were out of distance she let go of his hand and her hands soon covered her face. "God I'm sorry." she said though it was a bit mumbled. "..I'm sorry I was just and he and well." she said getting herself rather confused as she shook her head. One simple thing could turn in to an entire meltdown. "...thanks." she also managed to say as she pulled away her hands and looked up at the boy who was well to really get it out there - gorgeous. She looked him over trying not to make it obvious though it probably was. She then looked up in to his dark brown eyes and gave him a sincere smile. "We should um start over.." she announced and nodded her head full of blond hair. "..I'm Evelyn." she said and let out a laugh at how stupid they sounded. She kissed the boy before she even knew his name. Oh how fast things happen nowadays. "..and I bet I really scare you so I would understand if you'd be happy to never see me again." she said and smiled once more as she looked at all the books on the shelf and spotted one that she thought she needed. Her fingertips reached out for it as she looked at it and of course it wasn't what she was looking for so she put it back down and looked up at Christopher once more.

Shock. Yes, shock had overpowered the young man who had been the innocent party in the whole debacle thus far. He looked from the blonde girl to the couple, to the blonde girl again and blinked at the lot of them with astonishment. Words were not even compiling in his head, apart from the rocky ‘sure’ that he gave moments earlier. Christopher tried to avoid moments of humiliation, not because it affected him deeply, forced him to revert to being upset or anything as such. However, because it hurt other people, he was avoiding Jackie because he did not want awkwardness or to have her humiliated because of their past. This young woman on the other hand was another situation, he felt sorry for her for having to deal with a sticky situation.
"None of your fucking business asshole."
Christopher had to widen his eyes and shake his head a little to make sure that it was no longer spinning. Did that just seriously come from her mouth? She looked, appeared to be so young and innocent and here she was spitting out fiery and malicious words! Maybe he should have declined such an open invitation. What the hell though, it was a new page, a new direction in his day and, given the situation, he would one day look back and laugh upon it..
"God I'm sorry...I'm sorry I was just and he and well."
He really did not know how to respond, or even if he could respond. Being dumfounded was apparently becoming his middle name today, Chris just stood there long enough to look like a goof ball, he thought so at least. Whether or not Evelyn noticed was uncertain, then again, she did keep talking, most likely not. "...thanks." For what? Christopher was yet to answer that question, all he did was stand there and rub his head and not only because it hurt, but because he was confused. "We should um start over. I'm Evelyn." Evelyn, he smiled. A pretty name to suit a very pretty girl.
"..and I bet I really scare you so I would understand if you'd be happy to never see me again."
At this point, Christopher had only been an observer in the situation. He had had no participation in the turn of events with the exception of having the misfortune of getting a bump on the because of the clash between the two of them. He, in fact, had had the objective of getting up and helping her out, ensuring that he had not hurt her in any way. As it turned out, he just happened to help her out in a different fashion.
“..Yeah..” Christopher could not deny that, he was a might frightened by her little outburst but he was certain that she had had her reasons. Christopher was not one to judge anyone before getting to know him or her. “In a manner of speaking, but I could probably forget it and focus on.. the fact that you did kiss me, which was well worth it.” Having raised his pointer finger in a matter of fact fashion he chuckled then grinned at her. “Chris,” He added at length, realizing she had given her name, but he had not and he extended his hand.

She let out a small laugh at the thought of the kiss they'd shared. She really had layed the heat down on him and that wasn't very surprising at all for her. She'd shared many kisses with complete strangers and she always loved the look on their faces once it was over. "...I'm glad you enjoyed it." she said with a smile as she looked him over once more. She could definitely get used to kissing him but she had to make sure she didn't let her thoughts be heard. She had a tendency to say her thoughts out loud sometimes. She shook her head a bit as she tried to think of something else. "Oh well it's nice to meet you Chris." she said and smiled a bit as she grinned at him. She glanced around the book store to see that most of the big crowd totally disappeared and it just seemed to be those two and the employees. "So..um.." she said as she looked over at him not really knowing what to do. "..I uh guess I'll see you around?" she said as she bit at her lower lip. The truth was she found him rather interesting and she didn't want to just leave. She wanted to stay and talk but she probably scared the creap out of the boy. She began to walk away but of course it seemed like luck was against her today. She tripped over the stool and fell to the ground as she let a sigh escape her lips. "...or not." she said as she layed there against her face. She had to admit it did hurt but she would suck it up and not let it get to her. She knew it was all rather embarrassing but the girl had done enough to humiliate herself in one day that cursing or something of the sort was just going to make it worse. "..I'm such a clutz.." she whispered as she scooted herself up and off the floor a bit as she looked back at Chris. bleh sorry i suck.

"...I'm glad you enjoyed it."
Enjoyed it? She could say that, in so many words. It would have been more enjoyable if there was more meaning to it, Chris just did not go around kissing all the girls. His ideas of a ‘first kiss’ between a new love and himself entailed them actually knowing each other, too. Otherwise, it did not carry any substantial perquisites other than it felt good for Chris. If it did anything for her then that was good, too but in all honesty he was not inclined to go around kissing and telling in the future with any girls. He was not that kind of person.
"Oh well it's nice to meet you Chris."
“Likewise,” He replied at length, analyzing the smile upon her face and interpreting it as one that was keen and inquisitive about not only his kiss, but his physique, too. Christopher could handle that, as long as he could have his own in the situation. Evelyn was an attractive girl, perhaps not quite his type but he was not going to judge her just yet. He cast his eyes starting at her face and worked his way down, gently leaning back in that ‘checking you out’ position as Matt LeBlanc did in the last episode of Friends that he watched on Saturday night.
"So..um...I uh guess I'll see you around?"
Nodding, at not only her question, but her physique, too Christopher glanced down at his book, which was now rolled up and clasped it in both hands. “Yeah,” He would not turn down the company of a lovely girl. She began to walk away and Chris turned back to his magazine promptly, which meant practically forgetting that she had even existed. Having the ability to be interested in something so intently was one thing, but he found it easy to move from one to the other and when she fell Christopher did not rather realize until a few seconds after.
“Pardon?” His brows furrowed, “Oh, yeah,” Chris moved over to her and offered his hand but she got up herself, “Looks like we’re both having a bad day, I just realized I picked up the wrong magazine,” Which he had put back on the largely packed shelf just moments before moving over to her. “Mentally and Physically.” He chuckled, nodding in the direction of his own ex-girlfriend, Jackie.

She glanced in the direction he'd looked at and she nodded. "..ah I see." she managed to say knowing that it was probably the same situation she was having. "Ex girlfriend?" she asked and looked at him once more before looking back over at him. She could definitely see the two together and she guessed that he'd probably been the one to be dumped - he just looked a little sad when he saw her and it didn't even seem to phase her that he even existed. She knew all too well how that went. "I know what you're going through. That was my ex boyfriend.." she said pretty much stating the obvious.
Why else would she have made that big scene just to try and make him jealous which really all she managed to do was make a fool out of herself in front of not only her ex boyfriend and Brit but everyone else in the store. She didn't really mind because it's not like things like that hadn't happened before - they tend to happy many times because the girl isn't all that graceful. She had the body of a model but definitely not the grace.
She brushed a lock of hair away from her face as she pulled down her jeans. Her knee was throbbing but she wasn't going to even touch it - she knew it would only hurt worse. She'd just have a gigantic bruise tomorrow or even later this afternoon. "Oh what magazine were you getting?" she asked curiously as she looked over at him. She still hadn't found her book but she figured she just wasn't going to worry about it - not now anyways.

"Ex girlfriend?"
He did not need to answer, the expression written all over his sullen face was enough to vindicate that. Yeah, Jackie was just over there, looking more beautiful than ever. He had not really gotten over her, Chris supposed. She was young, gorgeous, had the world at her feet, just as Christopher did and they were both, and always had had an adventurous time together. An incredible feeling soaked over his body, that lonely feeling he got every time he came into the bookstore since breaking up with her. Alternatively, even being apart from his close friends, who gave him shelter from the harsh rains of solitude, having nobody to love and having nobody to love him. Chris was a sap, really, a romantic sap.
"I know what you're going through. That was my ex boyfriend.."
Shaking his head, Christopher excluded the view of Jackie from his range and scratched his curly head. He felt sorry for Evelyn, because he knew what she was going through. He knew that pang, the pain, the protectiveness. He hated seeing her out and about, with other guys, or even just out with her friends, knowing that he could have been in her world when fun and exciting moments occurred, through sadness and sorrow, too. Chris could not give or take, she would not even speak to him, he resented the fact that she would not, and he could not fix it.
“Do you?” The junior fixed his gaze upon the lovely girl once again, “Because I sure as hell think I should be over it by now.” He declared and with confidence, too. It did not mean anything, he did not have the guts to go over there and talk to her, fix it here and now. Nevertheless, why bother after… almost a year and a half. Time heals all wounds, but his gash was too deep and too tender to touch, he only went into this kind of façade of thoughts, feelings and recollections, when he seen Jackie in the flesh. Otherwise, he was okay.
“But every god damn time,” The scratch went from just that to a frustrated rub through his hair, whilst he tried to control his ever watchful gaze over the world from straying to one particular spot, “Every time… I see her… wait…” Christopher paused. Evelyn did not need this; she did not need to be burdened with his sorrowful story. “Sorry, I’m ramblin’ again.” But, obviously Evelyn was not about to give up on him, well, speaking to him seemed to be on her agenda. Either that or fate was having its fun, poking them both and giving them two left feet.
"Oh what magazine were you getting?"
“Ah,” He looked back around at the magazine rack and replied, “Just a mag,” He rubbed his ear, a horrible habit of doing such things, Christopher had, “Nothing that would interest a girl like you.” Eyes wandering back to her, up and down and locking together with her beautiful orbs, he smiled and any stray thought of Jackie was gone…
