My boyfriend and I found out this morning that a mutual friend of ours died last night.
He was an environmental conservation student at Idaho State University. He and three others on a semester study in New Zealand were descending a glacier in Mount Aspiring National Park on New Zealand's South Island and fell 1,600 feet - all roped together. Our friend was the only one who died from the fall, but the other two survived.
Austin was only twenty-years old and had such an amazing future ahead of him. He was doing what he loved and that is a consolation of sorts, but it still is heart-wrenching to all of us who knew him personally.
If you could keep his family and friends in your prayers, even if you aren't religious, it would mean a whole lot. I've never had a death hit close to home but this one managed to hit me more than I expected.

I will do that for you and sorry for your lost, I wouldn't want to go through the same thing as you are now.

Sure thing, hun, and sorry to hear about loss of your friend. If there is anything I can do, let me know. That is never easy, no matter who it is, family, friend, even someone you hardly know.

Oh man, that's sad news.
I'll say a prayer for him and his family.

That sucks Are they being buried in New Zealand or being flown back to the US?
