This world will continue long after we are all laid to rest.
And while our bodies may be gone… our lessons are eternal.
Life and death, light and dark, peace and upheaval; it is a cycle and nature of all things – one always birthing the other. As one flame is extinguished, another spark is ignited. Such is the fragile balance of existence; both lost and gained in the blink of an eye. Time marches onwards without any regard for the sorrows or desires of men… and never have the X-Men been more conscious of that fact than now.
Six months have passed since the events of Alcatraz Island where so many mutants were 'cured', countless soldiers turned to ash, and the island itself nearly destroyed by the infinitely powerful Phoenix. It was the darkest time the X-Men had ever faced, and the battle to protect those who hate them had culminated with the demise of a former teammate, the beloved Jean Grey who, in the end, chose death over godhood. Tears have already been shed for those departed; Scott Summers, the redhead Doctor, and the venerable Professor Xavier himself. Looking forward to a brighter future under Ororo Munroe’s leadership, who honored her mentor and his request that she follow in his footsteps, the X-Men and their students continue to keep Charles Xavier’s dream alive. With the backing of a sympathetic government, the mutants now have a chance for real tolerance and understanding.
Ideologies separate us.
Dreams and anguish bring us together.
Deprived of the commanding presence of their leader figure, the Brotherhood remained only a shadow of what the organization once used to be. After their ranks have been heavily decimated during the battle at Worthington Labs, Magneto’s depowerment proving to be too strong of a blow, the Brotherhood laid in tatters for many months to come. Having witnessed her father’s legacy waste away for too long, Wanda Maximoff stepped up, although the full support of the group remains questionable. Realizing this Brotherhood would not survive another defeat by the X-Men, and not wanting to disturb the tolerance currently existing between humankind and mutantkind, Scarlet Witch formed a peculiar agreement with Storm without the knowledge of her fellow mutants – the X-Men would not attack as long as the Brotherhood steered away from their previous aggressive and lethal measures. With the reports spreading about the cured mutants slowly regaining their powers, making the former leader’s return a possibility, who knows what awaits the Brotherhood.
Once we have the power we will never give it up.
Unbeknownst to them all, a shadow organization rising in strength and numbers in the very heart of New York has an agenda of their own. It seems like the tide is about to turn yet again. After all, light can never last for too long; darkness and hellfire come.
