Marta wasn't going to anyone or herself, her new apartment was a piece of crap. But, what did you expect with this low of a rent? Some one the wall paper was coming off in the main room, there was nothing but a white wall in the bedroom and the tile in bathroom looked like it came out of the 1800s. But, even though the place looked like a piece of crap, Marta felt a connection to it.
As she was sitting on one of the bar stools in her kitchen playing the guitar it hit her why she loved her apartment so much. Marta had an apartment like this one in Tokyo while she was touring in Japan. She smiled and thought about how to liven up the place...
Twenty minutes all the wall paper in the living room had been taken down and thrown out the window, leaving just brick walls. Marta raced into her bedroom where a box of posters were. The first thing she took out was one of her posters from her tour. It had a picture of her holding onto her guitar. She put it right about her black couch that had holes in it. The next poster was a shot from Fullmetal Alchemist, her favorite anime show. Marta had actually did an ending for it once.
Once the posters were up in place, Marta fell back on her couch, looking at the rocker room she had now. Her guitars were set up on amps in different corners of the room, her bass guitar sitting next to the bedroom's door. She smiled and picked up, playing her debut song.

Riley couldn’t wait to see how his new apartment was. He had been looking at the school bulletin board where he seen an ad and reply to it. Soon he got a call back telling him that he was about to move in. From the rent price he could tell that the apartment probably wasn’t in its best condition but the rent was low and since Riley didn’t have a job it was a prefect place for him to live.
Walking through the door when he first came to live at the house he look around. Things weren’t that great but he knew that once they got settle in things would be so much. All the place really needed was love. Riley room of course looked a disaster when he first move in but now it was more suiting to him.
The wall paper that once cover the wall were now a solid blue, which of course was his favorite color. In addition to that he also had poster of his favorite plays on Broadway. His bed sat in the far corner of the room, it was a twin size bed because his room was simply too small for anything larger. Even though his room was small it was home to him and over the next few days he was growing fond to it.
Walking out of his room he couldn’t help but hear his room mate playing one of her songs. Now many people would have been mad at all the noise that she was making but Riley gosh he love music. It was a part of his soul, and it was something that he did himself. His own guitar sat inside his closet safe inside its case. He wouldn’t want it to get all scratch up because it cost a lot of money. Feeling the urge to listen some more he walked to her door giving it a gently tap. “hey Marta mind if I join you in there” he said in a loud voice so that she was able to hear him.

Marta played a few more notes before stopping, putting her gutiar down on the couch. Her black eyes looked up at Riley, brightly shinning. "I don't mind at all, but I was just about to start singing in Japanese again." Marta said with a broad smile. Got up, careful not trip on the cords, and put her electric gutair up before grabbing a regular acustic one.
"Just to let you know, this is just for English practice." Marta said starting to play Teddy Geiger's For You I Will. She played each note slower then the already slow enough tempo. As Marta played she remembered the night that she had spent in Tokyo with her brother, Kohaku, and he had taught her this song. "Some times I think I suffer from M.P.D." Marta said laughing lightly.

Hearing her stop playing her guitar he smiled at her happy that he could at least she heard him when he asked to come in, Walking in when she said that is was okay for him to do so he walked over to the couch that she was sitting in and took a seat next to her “thanks, I thought that song that you were playing was beautiful” Riley said trying to make himself more comfortable.
Looking over at her when she started to talk, her accent very clear, he could tell that she wasn’t born in the United States. “oh cool, your English seems fine to me, or maybe I am used to hearing you speak now” Riley said to her comment about English practice. Hearing her play another song he tried to think of where he heard it before or if he ever heard it. Waiting till she end the song, then he would ask her bur for now he would just listen to her play.

As soon as Marta was finished playing she looked over the Riley and smiled at him. "Oh, thank you so much about my music. I played that on tour when I was still in Japan." Marta blushed slightly, finally a small amount of rose crept into her normally pale cheeks. Marta's eyes flashed up to meet Riley's for just a moment, knowing that as soon as she made contact she would start ogling.
Marta got up and put her gutiar up, hoping that she didn't seem to be taking up too much room in the main room. "Um, Riley, if you want you can put stuff out here. I won't do anything to it." She said grabbing her right elbow wit her left hand and letting her right hand fall straight at her side. Today Marta had been wearing a black skirt that had came from her only suit and a pale sky blue shirt that had bell sleeves and a very low cut neck line. A small silver heart shaped locket was resting right in the middle of her chest. Marta looked down at the ground and smiled, she enjoyed having a roommate.

Clapping his hands as if he was in some concert he smiled at her. Marta she had such a pure and power voice and her skills on the guitar were wonderful. He could sing and play the guitar as well so that was a good thing, they could share that interest with each other. Riley always felt it important to have something in common with the people that he stay with. “No problem and that sounds like fun. I never been to Japan before how is it there.” Riley asked her in a curious tone.
Watching her blush he thought she looked actually cute but he push those thoughts out of his head. He couldn’t be thinking like that, not when they had to stay in the same premises together. He wondered if that would bring them closer than what they were. Riley assumed it would, he wouldn’t mind making a new friend. Hearing her tell him that he could put some stuff around the main area he smiled “sure when I find something that I like I will be sure to post it in their.” he said with a slight laugh. Her decors were great though so he might not put anything up at all. “So what are your plans for today. We can cook a meal together” he asked feeling himself get a little hungry.

"Oh, I would love some food, but don't ask me to cook. I suck at cooking." Marta said with a smile looking at Riley's eyes. Marta had a feeling that having a co-ed house would be different, and if Marta really got drunk one day, it could just be what she cause an 'unprotected' night. Marta walked down the small hall into her room, where sitting on her desk were her cigarettes.
Marta only smoked when she was nervous, uncomfortable, or was trying to put on a show. When Marta returned she walked over to Riley and asked "Would you like one?" she was going to step outside to smoke her cigarette if Riley didn't want one.

“Oh why not cooking is fun. Don’t worry I know how to cook a bit of this, and little of that” Riley said with a small laugh. His eye were pratically glowing with happiness and thoughts of what they had in the refridgerator to eat popped in his mind. Walking into the kitchen he walked over to the refrigerator grabbing some milk and some other things. Walking over towards the counter table he placed everything down.
“mhm Marta how about I make us a casserole.” he said looking down making sure that he had all the basic ingredients. When she offered him a cigarette he shook his head. Riley never really got why people smoke but that was there descion to do so, just like it was his not to smoke. “No thanks it will ruin your voice you know” he said bending down and pulling a bowl out of the cabinet.

"My mother was really big into cooking. She loved it and when I was little I would help my reidou all the time. She would stand in our kitchen and yell 'Marta-chan, if you eat anything from those plates I'll take your violin away,' when I tried to eat her cookies." Marta said walking into the kitchen and leaning on the counter. She smiled, knowing that she could really confuse Riley if she wanted to.
"En gotoku temae Riley-san." Marta said, playing with her locket around her neck and smiling at Riley, her dark blue eyes scanning his face for his reaction. Marta really loved messing with people.

"Well my parents they don't cook much, they are barely at home. They have so much work and stuff so I had to cook for myself sometimes. " he said thinking about when he was a child and how he had to grow up so fast because his parents weren't around. It was like he was his own mom and dad, but he still love them none the less.
Looking up he gave her a weird look, thoughts of what the hell did she just say to him. Continuing to look puzzled he shook his head and open his mouth looking almost like a fish out of water. "Umm what exactly does that mean" he sputtered out looking back down looking at his chopping board where he was cutting some garlic.

"Nothing, it's just some nonesense." Marta said smiling and laughing. "It basicly means that salt kettle stand before Riley. It's normally something we say before having tea. In Japan you would put just the slightest amount of salt in the bottom of the kettle stand for 'balance'." Marta said putting the air qotes around the word balance.
In one sense Marta was telling the truth. That was one traslation, but in the way she was trying to imply what she had said it really meant 'I like you Riley.' Marta kept smiling as she watched Riley. "I'm so sorry to hear that about your parents."
