Clothes-----------------------------------
Panic ran through Bobby as she found herself standing at the entrance of Mount Sinai Hospital. Lil, her boss and the owner of Coyote Ugly, was in the emergency ward. She had listed Bobby as her next of kin, the two were practically like sisters. They'd known each other for years, she helped Bobby get set up when she first moved to New York. Now she was lying on an operating table with strangers doing who knows what to her.
The lady behind the desk was being snobby like they usually are and she wouldn't tell Bobby where her room was so she could wait for her to be brought out of surgery. She had gotten the call 30 minutes earlier by police who informed her that Lil had gotten into a car accident on her way home from the hospital. Bobby hadn't heard from her in a few months as Lil was backpacking across the world for a year and Bobby made it very clear that she wasn't to call her once. She wanted Lil to tell her everything that happened when she got back. She was to use her year to the full and making expensive phone calls just wasn't on.
Standing in the middle of the hall, her head pounding with worry, her eyes tearing up at the thought of losing Lil. She stopped one of the nurses that was going past to ask where Lils room was. The nurse could see the state that Bobby was in and showed her where the room was. Bobby closed the door before walking over to the bed. It fully su on her how close she could be to losing Lil. She didn't know what she would do. What would happen to the bar, to all of Lil's things? How was Bobby to get in contact with her real family to tell them what happened.
Tears streamed down her face, giving her brown eyes an unusual greyish appearance. She let herself go, the emotion finally was coming out. She heard the door open and knew it was probably one of the nurses or a doctor. She raised her head slowly, sniffling and wiping the tears from her cheeks. Her eyes rested on Dominic Hudson, an ex, a doctor and a friend. "Dom" She cried, getting up and running into him, wrapping her arms around his waist and resting her head on his chest, since he was that much taller then her. "Do you know anything?" She asked, sobbing into his shirt, leaving little wet spots where her eyes had been.

Dominc looked down at his clipboard, as he reached the front desk. His eyes darted to the list of patients he had seen today. He had the seen and checked up on the majority of them. There were at least 5 more people to check up on. The next name seemed vaugely familiar. The patient had just gotten out of surgery, which was a success, he heard, though she lost a bit of blood but they fixed it up. He shrugged to himself and pulled her file out the filing cabinet. He shot a smile at the nurse, out of politeness and smoothed out his dark blue dress shirt and black pants.
As he headed to this patients room, he read the patients name off the file. It was on the tip of his tongue, but still he didn't know where he remembered it from. He reached the room, the door was closed and he opened it up. Sitting next to the bed was a blonde female. On the bed, a blonde woman, eyes closed, slightly pale. The girl looked up. It was Bobby. His ex, who worked at Coyote Ugly. Ah, so that's where he remembered Lil from.
He hugged her back, smoothing out her hair. As she lifted her head from his chest, he wiped his thumb gently under her eyes as her make-up was smudging. "She's fine. It's just the aneasthetic is still running through her system. She'll be awake soon. You should let her rest a little." He didn't care about the wet spots on his shirt. he had others. He led her outside, sitting her down on the bench. "How long have you been here?"

Turning to look back at Lil before she left the room, her arms tightened around Dominic, a little frightened to look at Lil. Not that she was so messed up that it was scary, but because of how close she was to losing her. A few strands of her newly blonde hair fell in front of her face and she didn't even notice, her mind was too busy on Lil and her recovery. She looked towards Lil's room and could feel the small portion of her heart that was ripped out was slowly coming back together, releasing the pain of heart ache from Bobby's system.
She walked out of the room but didn't go too far from Lil. She didn't want to go to far away incase something happened. She wouldn't forgive herself if something else happened and she wasn't there. Teary eyes looked upon Dominic, hoping for some sort of sign that everything would infact be fine. That nothing could happen and she'll have a perfect recovery. "She'll be alright won't she?" She was almost afraid to ask, hesitance showing in each word.
Shaking fingers wiped falling tears from her cheeks and a small sniff followed. Her entire body was over come with fear and she felt so vulnerable. She just wanted to feel safe. Knowing she can rely on Dominic, she moved forward and once again, wrapped her arms around him before letting the tears fall. "I can't lose her Dom. I just can't. You have to keep her here. Don't let her die... Please don't let her die" Bobby pleaded, her watery eyes looking deep into his.
People walking past watched the two for a short while, some nurses not looking too kindly at Bobby, most probably due to the fact that she had her arms around a very sought after intern. Her fingers gripped the back of his white coat, only feeling safe around him. Especially since she noticed a few of the evil stares she was recieving. She had no idea why they were looking at her like that though, she was there depressed over the almost loss of a close friend and they're trying to burn a hole through her head with their eyes. "What's with the nurses?" Bobby asked Dom, gripping tighter since she noticed one with a syringe that was filled with some liquid.

He smoothed her now blonde hair with his hand, trying to calm her down. He had seen that a few strands had fallen in front of her face. he brushed them away gentl, her finger grazing her skin barely. As she asked if her boss would be alright, he noticed there was a hesitant tone in her voice, with a bit of fear also. "Bobby, honestly, I really don't know at tthis stage. She's still unconcious." He said softly. He kenw that what he said wouldn't make anything better, but it was the truth. Dominic didn't like to lie. But her pelading tone, made him to want be some sort of faith healer so he could make Lil better for bobby's sake. He hated seeing her like this.
He looked down at her, as he was quite taller than she, his green eyes that were tinged with brown and blue, locked with her brown ones, but now he could see a tinge of grey as she was upset. No scratch upset, distressed. He placed one hand on her face adn using his thumb, he wiped away stray tears on her face. He pulled a tissue and held it out to her. "Don't worry, it's clean."
When she told him about the nurses, he looked up to see a few nurses looking at the pair. Oh, them. He raised his eyebrows adn immeadiately, they flashed sweet, sick smiles in his direction. He could feel Bobby grip onto his jacket. "I don't think I want to know." He mumbled subtly. The nurses finally walked away. Dominic rubbed her arm. "C'mon. I'll get you a coffee to calm you down. Don't worry, the cafe is on this floor, so you won't be too far from Lil." He stood up, Bobby still holding onto him.

The uncertainty she heard in Doms voice just ripped at her heart once more, the same portion that was gone and healed is now dissolving away slowly again. Why Lil. Why couldn't someone else have gotten into a car accident. Anyone else. Just not Lil. "Oh god, I'm gonna lose her" Bobby weeped, falling into Dom. She felt so weak. So drained.. So lifeless. She had no idea what was going to happen but what made it worse was that Lil's doctor didn't even know what was going to happen.
Their eyes met, her dull brown ones gazing deep into his gorgeous multi-colored ones. She felt his thumb on her cheek, wiping her tears away and she put one hand on the top of his hand that was on her face. No words were exchanged. Just longing looks from Bobby of what used to be and what could have been. Sure they broke up and they were still friends but Bobby still had little feelings. As she did for every guy she dated. If she didn't then she wouldn't have dated them in the first place. Dominic was by far one of the better boyfriends she had in her life. Her mind wandered to why they broke up and it was because they didn't have a reason to get together. Well right now she was some strong urges to be with him were coming over her. She figured it was just because he was helping her and she was so low. Her mind and heart knew she didn't actually want him like that, but she still had those feelings. Those longing feelings.
"Thanks" She said, grabbing the tissue and dabbing under her eyes with it lightly. Through the noisiness of the hospital she heard the faintest sounds of people whispering. She cocked her head to the side in the direction of the nurses and saw them looking at her and Dom with ugly expressions on their faces while whispering to each other. "Oh fuck off would you!" Bobby deep, a deep low growl full of anger at the nurses who jumped from the shock of being yelled at in such a way.
"Yeah come on lets go" Bobby said grabbing Doms hand and intertwining their fingers together, not only to make the nurses more jealous even thought they weren't together, and just so she felt safer. Like he couldn't leave her. She headed in the direction of the Cafeteria, giving the nurses one last dirty look before stopping and looking at Lil's room. She felt bad that she was leaving the immediate vicinity but she felt safe that Lil would be alright. She just hoped that nothing would happen while she was in the Cafeteria.

He took Bobby away from the whispering nurses. She didn't need this right now. As he heard her swear at them, he moved his arm over her shoulder adn rubbed her upper arm. As they reached the cafe, he sat Bobby down on a chair, asd went to get coffee himself. He held up two fingers. "One black, milk and sugar. One sweet tea, two sugars and milk." He asked. The middle-aged woman behind the behind the behind gave him a smile and made the drinks. When they were ready, he told her he would pay for them later, just putting htem on a tab would be fine, as he went to get coffee alot. He walked back over to Bobby adn heanded her the tea. "Here, I figured a tea would do you better than coffee right now." He siad hading her the steaming cardboard cup adn he tooka seat next to her. He tooka sip from his hot drink adn darted his eyes towards her. One thing was for sure, Bobby certainly wasn't herself. "We need help here!" He heard someone call.
He lifted his head to see a few nurses rush towards the direcition of... oh no. He got up, putting his cup on the chair, uickly turned to Bobby and said ."Wait here." And rushed off to the destination of where assitance was needed. He found them in Lil's room, she was shaking on her bed. "Where are the doctors?" He siaid, rushing to the bedside. Nurses informed him tthat the majority of them were in the OR, performing surgery. He placed both hands on her chest one, above the other, and pressed hard, once at a time, with a pause of 3 seconds between each.
"Trolley!" He called out.
He had done this before. He knew what to do. He held the shock pads infront of him, rubbing them together. "Charge 120. Clear!" He placed both of them on her chest, her body jumping. Her heart beat had improved a little, ut not enough. "Charge 140. Clear!" He repeated. The room fell silent as the once jumping line, now turned flat, the whistle echoing the room. One of the nurse gingerly took the pads from him and placed them back on the trolley, not before turning it off. He stayed quiet for a while, his eyes on Lil's now dead body.
"Let's call it. Time of death. Three forty seven" He said glancing at his watch.
He looked over to see Bobby hadn't stayed at the chairs, instead now in the room, slient. He walked over to her, pulling her into a hug. "Bobby, I am so sorry. I tried. I'm so sorry" he said mumbling into her hair.

Rushing nurses quickly caught the attention of the distraught Bobby, and the same could be said for Dominic. When she saw him too she knew it was Lil. She just knew. He told her to stay there but as if she was going to listen to him. It was Lil, she needed to be there. Hiding away was just not an option right now. Lil was her one and only priority for the time being so she wasn't going to stand back while something happened.
The sight of Lil's seizuring body instantly brought Bobby to tears, being overwhelmed with the feeling of fear, heartbreak and nausea. The emotions running through her was enough to make Bobby dry reach, but she couldn't run off to go vomit because of her nerves. Lil needed her and that was all that mattered.
She saw that Dom was doing everything he could. Him and the nurses in there. Even though she weren't her biggest fans earlier, she was thankful how professional they were and how much they tried to save her. Bobby prayed to god to keep Lil alive. She felt a strain on her heart as she continued to pray and look at Lil, fighting to stay alive.
One single repeating tone repeated in Bobby's ears like she was standing right next to speakers at a Rock Concert. A sound that was so often referred to as the 'Flat Line', an indication that the person on the machine was infact dead. It was the only thing she could hear. Everything else was drowned out. Shocked at the death of her dear friend, Bobby froze. Her jaw fell open and her palms opened up, the handle of her cup of tea slipping through her fingers and falling on the floor, spilling all over the place. Bobby watched it fall and watched it spill and everything seemed to be in slow motion. Even the people around her.
Feeling arms around her she immediately knew it was Dominic comforting her but that wasn't what she wanted now. She pushed him away before turning and running out of the room. Not saying one single word. There was one place she could go right now to cope. One place that she knew she'd be able to deal with it, and that was the kitchen. Not the cafeteria Kitchen but the one for the patients. She was going to surround herself with the small tubs of Flavourless Vanilla Ice Cream.

He felt Bobby push him back. He reached his hand out to stop her but she was too quick. He tunred back to tell the nurses and interns in that room to inform the family. He went after Bobby. As he walked out she was no where in sight he passed some nurses. "Have you seen a female about that tall," he said holding a hand about his shoulder length, "and blonde hair?" The nurses pointed him in the direction of the patients kitchen. "Thanks, girls" He said flahing them a smile.
Thankfully, they were the ones Bobby swore at before. He jogged in the direction of the kitchen, going down a small flight of stairs and throw a small corridor before he did reach it. He pushed open the door, the heads of the personnel swivelling thier heads to look at him. One of them, a young woman, pointed her arm towards the fridge area. Form where he was standing seemed to beblocked by tall overs and tables. He crept adn softly as he could towards where the fridge was and saw Bobby, eating ice-cream. How the pateints could like flavourless ice-cream, he didn't know. He sat down across from her, just looking at her.
"I tried to. Believe me I tried." He said, after a silence.
Wow, was that lame. After when he tried to keep his ex's boss alive ans lost the battle, that was all he could say. Now sittting here, watching her eat ice-cream, saying not much but what he just did, did not make life any better, but it didn't get worse either. There really wasn't anything that could get more worse than this. "Instead of eating that flavourless shit, eat some that's actually good. C'mon."

-----------------------------------
Ice cream was the only thing that made sense to her in this world. She had never really experienced the loss of a loved one before, yes she considered Lil a loved one. If it wasn't for Lil she would probably be working a corner. But she wasn't. Now she was sitting in the corner inside a hospital kitchen eating the patients ice cream.
Her head was faced down, looking at the ice cream tub. She didn't even have to look up to know that Dom was there. "Why do you guys give this crap to the patients, I mean you guys make enough fucken money. Why don't you buy some good shit atleast." She said finishing off the ice cream and tossing the empty tub and spoon next to her where it landed in a small pile of other emptied ice cream tubs.
Rolling her eyes as he told her that he 'tried', Bobby stood up and reached into the freezer, which she left open for easy access, pulling out not one, not two, not even three but four mini ice cream tubs. Since they all came with their own spoons just under the lid she roughly pushed past Dom, not even looking at him as she did so. "Yeah well you didn't try hard enough"
It was obvious to those that knew her how angry she was. When she's angry every second word will be a swear word. But she didn't swear once in that last sentence, which meant that she was fuming. She tore off the lid to one of the containers and threw it behind her, not caring where it landed. She began to eat the ice cream, walking fairly slowly down the hall, her eyes locked on the ice cream. Nothing was going to tear her away from that disgusting flavourless shit they feed the people here. Nothing.

He knew how angry she was right now. She didn't even swear. He knew she was pissed as hell. Anyone could see that. He stumbled slightly as Bobby pushed past him. He watched her silently as she reached into the freezer to take out 4 tubs of the mini ice creams. And continued to do so as he began to eat, as she walked out the door, he got up following her. Nothing he said would probably make anything better right now. He followed her, jogging a little before he caught up to her. "Believe me, if I could make her come back to life, I would. Anything to make you happy again. But I can't. I'm not God."
His eyes remained on her, knowing full well, that he would be ignoring eher right now. He watched her eat ice-creams adn ignore him. Ignore him try to aplogise and that he tried all he could. He had had enough. He took the ice-creams out of her hands, and tossd them aside. Before she could object, he took her firmly by the arms, and had a firm grip on them, not to the extent of hurting her, but he could hold her so she wouldn't walk from him. "Roberta Ryan, get a grip on yourself. She's dead. You know that. We know that. We can't bring her back to life. I would if I could, but I can't. Accept the fact she's dead. She wouldn't want you to wallow around for the rest of your life eating ice-cream. She'd want you to live your life. You're 22 for chrissake. You have your whole lifetime. Don't waste it. She wouldn't want you to." He said in a firm tone. He was quite shocked at himself. He had never talked to anyyone like that.

Even though Dom had stopped her it didn't mean she was going to pay attention to him. Sure he had 'tried' but that didn't mean anything. Lil was gone and it was his fault. "Don't feed me that rubbish, Dom" Bobby yelled before continuing to eat her ice cream. "I watch Grey's Anatomy. I know that someone can last 4 hours before they call it" She argued. Even though the only reason they waited 4 hours was because Meredith had to be warm to be dead, since she drowned she was extremely cold. But Lil, she was already warm. Bobby just had to say something like that. He might have tried, but he didn't try hard enough. It just wasn't good enough for her.
She was fine standing there eating her ice cream while being talked at. She didn't care. Her mind needed to be elsewhere and it was Ice Cream. Right now she felt as if Ice Cream was her saviour. Her saviour from the real world. As long as she had ice cream she didn't have to deal with Lil's death. She didn't have to deal with anything. Not the bar, nor her apartment, nor her stuffed up love life. With Ice Cream in her hands, everything was perfect.
The second he grabbed her ice cream her face turned completely red with rage but she could control it, for now anyway. The thing that really got at her though was what he called her. Roberta. How dare he. He knew how much she hated that name, hence why she only went by Bobby. Then he went on saying how Lil was dead. Who the hell did he think he was. You don't say that kind of thing to someone right after their loved one died. He must be mental or something.
Before she knew it her hand had found its way to the side of Dom's face. Slapping it hard enough to leave a red mark. "Fuck You" Bobby said looking right into his eyes, her own filled with pure hatred. She had never felt that way towards Dom before but it felt like it wasn't going to be leaving any time soon. "That was too far" Bobby said, her voice full of anger. Without saying another word, she turned around and headed back in the direction of the Kitchen. Since he had thrown hers aside she needed more. That was the closest place with it so thats where she was going.
