What was a movie really? A series of images set up so it looks like something is really moving. Or, that's what it was way-back-when. As far as Teddy knew, that's who it still was, just more high-tech. Whatever it was, movies were fun. It was a way to just forget the world, if only for that hour and a half. Or maybe a date, if someone so desired. Movies could also be used in hanging out with friends.
Teddy pulled up in the Cinema parking lot, battling the rest of the cars for a somewhat decent parking lot. 'Why did I drive today? Why didn't I take a cab like sane people do?' he thought to himself. Well, it better be worth it. Which it probably will be, since he'd planned to meet Madison here. Which movie? Who's paying? How's Madison getting there? Well, Teddy couldn't answer those questions. All he knew was what time they had planned for. He checked his watch, as he climbed out of his car. "7:00. Right on time." he mumbled to himself.
His hands smoothed down his black button-up shirt. He'd put on a plain white shirt underneath, and left some of the buttons undone to make it look more casual. Teddy had also rolled up the sleeves, so it didn't look like he was going to attend a funeral. Casual and comfortable was his style. He'd thrown on a pair of blue jeans along with his black vans to top it off.
Teddy walked into the rather large theater, and glanced around for Madison. It wasn't actually that big, just bigger than he was used to. His hair was in it's usual style: side-parted, with a chunk of his bangs hanging over one eye. The rest of it lay straight today. "Not here yet. Figures..." He mumbled to himself, and rolled his eyes. Of course, he was joking. He didn't mind that she was late, as long as it wasn't too late.

Movies were pretty much Madison’s life. Her whole world practically revolved around a video camera and an editing program found on her Mac computer. She loved every aspect of the movie business; the crazy and insane hours, the excitement, how there were so many levels to one little shot, and how one minute of a movie took at least 2 hours to create. It was incredible, something that was amazingly mind-boggling. Sure, many didn’t view movies quite as the aspiring film director did but it was apart of who she was. It was hard to go to a theatre and actually enjoy a movie because she was mostly too busy looking at all the technical stuff; if the continuity was right, what kind of shots they used (arch shots, pans, eye to eye), how they made the lighting the way it was. Ever since she dipped her toes in the movie world it was hard to sit back and enjoy a movie like all her friends were able to. That was the main reason why she hardly went to the cinema, but when Teddy asked her to hang with him there she couldn’t possibly turn him down.
“He’s gonna kill me,” Madison muttered to herself as she grabbed her car keys and rushed out the door. It was exactly seven o’clock and she was already suppose to be at the theatre, not just leaving her dorm. She didn’t even have a good excuse for why she was late. It just took her longer to get ready then she expected. It was frustrating when thinking about meeting up with Teddy because it seemed to take ten times longer to get on the ‘perfect’ outfit when she was meeting him compared to any other guy. Yes, she adored him as a friend but she also liked him more then that. That’s why she always tried to look as good as she could around him, so that she’d be confident in his presents but also make it look like she actually had some style. It was sad really, but it had taken her an hour to pick out her outfit for that night and she ended up leaving in the clothes that she had worn all day; a Led-Zeplin t-shirt and a pair of jeans. Madison had even left her brown curly hair down, doing absolutely nothing to it what so ever.
At least she wasn’t too late. The school was only a ten minute drive from the theatre so it wasn’t like she was so late that they’d miss their movie. She only hoped that Teddy wasn’t beginning to think that she stood him up or forgot about him. After all, he was probably the last person she would forget about.
Before hoping out of her vehicle, Madison opened up the glove box and pulled out a small zip-lock bag of cookies that she had picked up from the store earlier that day. Instead of leaving them in the original packaging she had put the cookies into a zip lock bag to make it look as if she had baked them herself. Last time she checked she owed Teddy some cookies from saving her from complete and utter boredom.
Walking into the theatre she glanced around quickly, almost instantly spotting Teddy. His back was facing her, but it was hard not to recognize his build and hair style, “Ew, look at that kid, it’s Teddy,” She said with a hint of disgust present in her voice as she made her way over to him. A smirk made its way upon her lips as she reached his side, “looky what I brought you,” Madison said, holding up the bag of cookies in front of her for Teddy to see, “I slaved over the oven all day baking these just for you,” She shared, not bothering to tell him that they were actually store bought, “so you better love me for keeping my promise for once.”

Teddy ran a hand through his hair absentmindedly, before reminding himself that he had to look good. Madison would be coming soon. Madison; not only one of his good friends, but the person he was crushing on. He tried to tell himself to not, but he couldn't help it. Not too mention the flirting that went on between them, which he enjoyed. He guessed it was just meaningless for her. She was just getting a flirting fix. But some of his flirting, he meant it.
He crossed his arms across his chest, as he waited somewhat impatiently. The movie hadn't started, and he had guessed she'd be late. But he was getting excited to see her. He hadn't seen Madison in awhile, and he hated when that happened. Teddy was always afraid they would end up drifting apart if they didn't hang out in x number of days or weeks. He had talked to her online recently, so he knew that hadn't happened. That didn't stop him from wanting to hang with one of his friends though.
Once he heard her voice, he turned a quarter turn. He immediately recognized the voice, so he knew he shouldn't get mad by it; she was just kidding. "Well, look what the cat dragged in." he joked back, and smiled at her. Like all the other times that they'd just met up, his eyes secretly glanced down at her clothing. No, he wasn't a pervert, but he always took interest in what a girl was wearing. Even Evelyn, he always glanced at one point or another.
"Oh, you know what I like." he said, reaching out for the zip-loc bag. "But, Cookie, did you really make these?" he asked, holding the bag up. "By the way, that's your new nickname. Cookie." he added, and nodded approvingly. Sure, it was a little odd and kind of dumb. But the cookie parts of their online conversation had made him smile, and they stuck in his mind long after it was over.

It was good to finally be around Teddy once again. They hadn’t gotten together in some time now. Their schedules always seemed to conflict with one another. It was a shame really, because he was one of the people she liked to spend her time with most. All stressful thoughts seemed to always melt away the instant she saw his handsome features. Teddy was like a big kid in a way, their relationship was playful and always at ease; that’s the main reason why whenever around him everything from the ‘real world’ seemed to get lost and leave Madison free from all the shit that was going on.
Just by the way the two greeted each other anyone could tell that they were good friends that joked around often with one another. “I know” Madison began with a small smirk after Teddy threw the joking comment her way. ‘look what the cat dragged in’ was known as an insult, calling a person that it was intended for a dead rat or whatever the case may be. But of course she had to turn it around to go in her favor, “The cat dragged in a beautiful and rather snazzy girl,” She finished, boosting her own ego a bit.
“Of course I made those,” She lied after he had taken the bag of cookies from her grasp, “Are you questioning my baking abilities?” Madison continued in a semi hurt voice. Though, she didn’t keep the act up for long before cracking a small smile indicating that she was full of bull, “Fine, they’re store bought… but it took me forever to pick those out!” Yup, it was a very hard task to drive all the way to the store, walk through isles of delicious treats, and pick out goodies for a friend. Honestly, it was hard work, almost as bad as actually slaving over an oven all day.
After hearing the new nickname Teddy had dubbed her, Madison smiled, “Cookie…” She repeated as if mulling it over in her mind, “I like it, it’s cute and radsome,” She finally concluded with a little nod of approval, “And I’ll come up with a spiffy nickname for you later. When something absolutely amazing comes to mind.” Nicknames weren’t exactly her area of expertise but every once in a while something brilliant did come to mind.
“So, what movie are we seeing today?” She asked, looking up at Teddy. Madison had agreed to see a movie with him but hadn’t n asked what it was that they were seeing. It wasn’t until then, when they were standing in the theater entrance that it dawned on her that she didn’t even know what movies were out, “It better be a good one.” Madison added even though she knew full well that Teddy probably picked out the best movie that was playing.

What were friends, really? Once, Teddy had spent quite a while thinking about that one question. He hadn't really answered it directly, just came up with a whole bunch of different answers. Friends are people who support you throughout your life. Friends are people who are there for you when you fall. Friends are people who share laughs, smiles, and good times with. For Teddy, Madison fulfilled all of these. He truly loved her, as a friend, for all of these things.
He was still examining the cookies, as she spoke. He smiled, and a soft laugh passed through his lips. "Good one." he said, and laughed again. He'd never heard that reply to 'look what the cat dragged in'. He could probably not think up something like that. He may be good with nicknames, but not snappy comebacks.
Teddy lifted the bag up to his eyes once more, and studied them some more. "You told me you can't bake though. You told me that yourself." he exclaimed. He would've said before, but she'd spoken again. "Ah! I knew you were lying. These look too good to be homemade by anyone." he said. He laughed a little again, before opening the bag and grabbing a cookie.
He held up the cookie at Madison's eye level, for a brief second. He'd only done that, because Madison had repeated her nickname. Teddy timed him holding the cookie up along with when she'd said it. With that, he took a rather large bite of it, and wiped the crumbs off of his lips. "You just let me know when you come up with a good one." he added, after he chewed the cookie a little.
Teddy turned his upper body slightly, so he could look at the list of movies playing. "Actually, I hadn't decided yet. I thought I'd either leave it up to you, or we'd both pick." he said, reading some of the names to himself. "So, either way, you have a say if it's a good one or not." he added, and took another bite of the half-eaten cookie in his hand. At the moment, he kind of felt like a little boy. He had an opened bag of cookies in one hand, and a half-eaten one in the other.

It was cute how defensive Teddy got. It was as if he actually seemed worried that he had offended her from what he said before. But of course he hadn’t; she was only messing with him like so many other times before, “One day I’ll make cookies that look as good as those,” She told him, making that promise more to herself then to him, “And I’ll tell you that they’re store bought and you’ll believe me and if you taste them and don’t end up getting sick from them then I’ll know that I don’t actually have to waste my money on buying bloody cookies for you from the store because mine will be just as good.” It wasn’t as if she had been obliged to buy him the cookies, she had said she would on MSN as a teasing kind of thing, but she decided to actually go through with spending her hard earned cash in the long run.
“Oh trust me, you’ll be the first I tell,” She assured her friend as she tucked a bit of hair behind her ears. Nicknames really weren’t her specialty but she was sure that she’d be able to come up with an awesome one in no time at all. Some names were already in mind but none of them seemed quite right. After all, she wasn’t about to settle for anything less then perfect; at least not for Teddy.
“So were the store bought cookies worth it? Not dying yet are we?” Madison asked, knowing full well that if she had made those that he’d probably be on the floor dead by now. He had taken a big bite from one already and he wasn’t spitting it out yet. Thank god she hadn’t taken the risk of baking and actually got off her lazy ass and ran over to the store, “I didn’t know what kind you’d like so I thought that chocolate chip was the safest bet,” She added. Honestly, the things she did for this kid.
It was kind of cool hearing that Teddy hadn’t already picked out a movie. This way they’d both be able to have some say in it and neither would be forced into seeing something that they really didn’t want to see or spend their money on, “I suppose we can both pick. I mean, you do have some taste in what’s good and what’s not,” she said with a small smirk, looking up at the list of movies that flashed over a screen. Decisions were always so hard, especially for someone that was as indecisive as she was. “Let’s narrow it down a bit shall we?” She asked. There were ten movies playing, meaning that they’d have to narrow it down to one. Damn, they couldn’t be at this for a while, “Do we want to see a scary movie, a comedy, a chick flick, an adventure movie, or a family film?” She asked Teddy thoughtfully, already attempting to narrow down what he’d say. She didn’t take him as a guy who enjoyed chick flicks and she doubted that he’d really want to see a family kind of film. It was probably going to be narrowed down to a horror, adventure, or comedy movie; all films that she enjoyed the most. Horror would be better for cuddling up to Teddy which wouldn’t be that bad, an adventure would probably leave her at the edge of her seat for most of the movie, and a comedy would leave her laughing out loud and would probably put her in a good mood for a few days. In the long run she’d probably leave it up to Teddy to make the hard decision of choosing what movie to see.

"Yeah, Maddy, keywords; one day." Teddy stated, only joking of course. He knew if Madison tried hard enough, she could most definetly make cookies as good as the bag of cookies he was holding. "And you didn't have to spend all your hardly-earned cash on me." he added. Again, teasing with the word 'hardly'. "Besides, since you gave me cookies this time, I will be expecting you to bring me cookies everytime. So you better learn how to make them." Wow, what a teasing mood this boy was in today.
"I'd better be the first you'll tell." he added, and chuckled lightly. "It's only fair, since it will be my nickname." He took another bite of the half-eaten cookie in his hand, and chewed it thoughtfully. Choosing a movie was never one of his specialties. He always hoped that the other people he was with would choose for him, and he'd always enjoy it every now and again. Now that he actually goes to the movies with friends, he has to have some sort of opinion in what to go see.
Teddy turned his attention back to the girl in front of him, listening intently. "Nope, I'm still very much alive." That's when she started talking about the flavours of cookies. To be completely honest, Teddy preferred peanut butter cookies, but chocolate chip were way high on his favorite cookies list. Not that there actually was a 'Teddy Winborne's Favorite Cookies List'. "I do like chocolate chip. You're right, it was an extremely safe bet."
His attention had turned back to the movie list, as he watched the names flash across the screen. What did he want to see right now? Well, for surely not a chick flick or a family film. But the rest of the movie genres remaining were hard to decide from. It really depended on which mood he was in. Sometimes he wanted to laugh, sometimes he wanted to be kept in suspense, and other times he wanted to be scared. Most horror movies don't scare him though, but when he wanted to be scared was the best time for a horror flick. "I'm actually not too sure. What do you want right now?" he asked. Ah, the passiveness he'd accumulated earlier in his life was kicking in again. "I mean-- for me, probably comedy, adventure or horror. If that narrows it down at all."
