Adorned in a black shirt, white peasant skirt, and matching flip-flops, Anna Sophia made her way down towards the blue waves lapsing softly against the shore of the lake. Golden blonde locks fell in gentle waves around her shoulders, blowing across her back with the occasional gust of spring wind. Off her right elbow dangled a denim purse, just large enough to hold the essentials any girl might need. In her left hand, she carried a paper sack with a peanut butter sandwich and potato chips - lunch for one.
There had not been much rain in the past week, assuring the freshman the ground would be dry enough to sit on. With a bounce in her step, Anna Sophia crossed the line between grass and sand and lowered herself carefully to the ground. Setting her purse beside her, she sighed in content and leaned back on her arms. Putting her face to the sun, she closed her eyes and let the light soak through her skin, filling her with warmth.
Despite the beautiful spring weather, the lake was not at all crowded. A few people could be spotted here and there - the occasional couple walking by the sandy shore, or the family of three playing on the other side of the water. For the most part, however, it was void of people and society in general. Anna Sophia was probably the only one, besides little children, under thirty.
After a moment of basking in the heat of the spring sun, Anna Sophia pulled her sandwich out of her paper bag and nibbled idly on the crust. Her bright blue eyes watched the humble waves fold over themselves before falling into the cream-coloured sand and sliding back to the depths of the water. She chewed as she watched, using one hand to balance her weight and brush the corner of her purse.

Marta had decided to check out what the state had to offer, so carefully getting out of her blood red convertible she brought from Japan Marta looked around. Her black boot came up to about two inches from her knee, her fraying denim skirt couldn't have been any shorter then it was. A dark blue tank-top barely covered her cleavage, but the denim vest she was wearing covered some up a little better. Marta fixed her fishnet arm socks and made sure that her car was locked before she walked down the sand.
Marta was staring out toward the lake, where the waves gently hit the sand, seeming to wash away secrets that were held there. Marta kept her arms folded over her chest, watching the waves. The lake reminded her of Kyoto, where she used to have a small pond behind her house. It had been beautiful, but a little crowded with 1.7 million people in it.
As she walked down she stummbled over a rock and feel to the ground, rolling down the hill a little, ending up next to a girl eating a sandwich. "Hi." Marta mumbled rubbing the back of her head.

A voice caught Anna's attention, making her pause in the middle of her bite. Turning her head slightly to see who was talking to her, Anna's eyes widened. The girl was dressed to the nines, though not in business attire. Anna wasn't sure what to call it. She was quite exposed, a stunning contrast to the casual and non-revealing blonde sitting beside her with a sandwich.
Feeling like she might be staring, Anna blushed a little bit and swallowed the piece of wheat bread smothered in peanut butter. She had swallowed just a hint too quickly, making her cough a few times before she could actually speak. When her throat finally clear, she squeaked out a strangled, "Hello!" The excitement was not as strong as she had intended, thanks to the cough.
Once Anna was sure she could speak again without sounding ferocious or distorted, she offered the other girl a friendly smile. "Are you alright?" she inquired politely, pale blue eyes traveling to the hand at the back of Marta's head. She almost spoke again; but, remembering she was not in Tennessee, Anna promptly shut her mouth and awaited the girl's response.

Marta pushed herself off the ground with her right hand. She rubbed her head twice before the pain coming. Before answering she cused under her breath in Japanese. Marta looked at the girl after a couple of seconds and replied "I'm fine for the most part, but I could be better."
Marta's eyes fell on what the girl was wearing, it seemed a little weird to wear on such a sunny day like this. The sun was above their heads at the moment and it caught of the waves. "It's beatiful here, why did I never think about coming out here before?" Marta asked, a little more to herself then the girl.

The girl muttered something under her breath, but Anna had no idea what it was. She wasn't even going to pretend like she understood, so she simply watched the girl with a blank expression. The stranger was rubbing her head, as though she had either hit something or something hit her. A headache, perhaps? Coughing a little, more to get the stranger's attention than clear her throat, Anna asked, "Do you have a headache? If you do, I have tylenol and advil in my purse. If you want any, I mean..." She lifted a shoulder in a small shrug, her eyebrows raised and an expression that hopefully looked friendly on her face.
She seemed to say something else, and this time Anna caught the words. She was not sure how to respond, seeing as the question did not seem directed to anyone. It was probably more of a personal query than anything. Rather than answer, Anna simply looked out at the lake and said, "It is always very peaceful here." She offered the stranger a natural smile after her words before glancing back out at the water.

"I don't have a headache, I tripped because I was thinking of how this place reminded me of home." Marta admited truthfully. She let her hand drop from the back of head. "I'm Marta Chang." She said offering her hand. "And thank you for the offer with the Tylenol, but I'm fine." She said smiling.
Marta looked out at the lake again and said "I love America, it has everything here. From huge cities to quiet places here." Marta watched as the waves came up to the shore then slowly went back in, seeming like they didn't want to leave.

"Oh," Anna said quietly, nodding in understanding. "I know what you mean," she said. A pleasant smile was on her face, though her eyes looked a little more sad. She had the same thought when she first came to the lake. Her uncle had a lake back behind his house and through the woods; Anna and her brothers would go fishing there all the time. Though it didn't look exactly like this lake, it was similar enough to evoke a sense of homesickness.
Anna shook the girl's hand. "Nice to meet you. I'm Anna Sophia." With a friendly smile, she added, "You're welcome." Setting the sandwich down in her lap, Anna pulled her hair to the side, letting it rest over one shoulder. The wind had picked up just enough to blow it around in her face, making her wish she had a spare hair tie. She made a mental note to remember that next time.
"Where are you from?" she inquired, returning her attention briefly to her sandwich to take another bite. While she waited for the girl to respond, she idly pulled away at the crust of her wheat bread, making a small pile on the sandwich bag in her lap.
