The more you looked back on the past, the more it seemed to shape who you are. As a younger kid, it had always been Double Dutch with the neighbors, and tossing rocks off the fire escape. You never really worried about if you were going to fall, or if someone was just going to swipe you off the street. Back then, your parents really let you do anything. Yet, some of the things you did weren’t always agreeable with particular friends. Most guys found it corny and kid-ish going around playing jump rope games with the neighborhood girls. None of that really bothered Roman, for he eventually made it up, and plus, it was his decision not theirs. And everything seemed to come down to their little house in Miami, even the source of all his memories. Like, watching the neighbor’s baby crawl past the window, and thinking how loud and obnoxious it was. Now, looking back on it all, you find the baby slightly cute and no longer annoying. Though, that was just a part of growing up. You learned to look at things a different way.
Roman never got quite used to going to sleep at a certain time, and that was when he found himself watching the lightning, or climbing out his window to watch all the people on the street. That was why you might find him up pretty late, even if he had classes the next morning. He was the kind of guy that needed something to do, not just sleeping. Sure, he liked it, but in his opinion there were much better uses of time. Occasionally you’d find him doing nothing and just resting for a while, but he had a tendency to have to move within an hour time frame. His usual nightly expedition was walking, but he never truly stuck to it. Horses were a perfect example of not really sticking to things. Mrs. Hawkins had started the Thoroughbred farm when he was little, so he naturally grew up around horses, as did Lacey. Lacey eventually took over, and expanded tremendously. Roman often found himself riding and whatnot to help out a little bit, but broke away every now and then to try something new.
You could hear the music from quite a ways away, and the beat seemed to echo off every building surrounding. The ground shook beneath your feet as you got closer, making your pulse quicken with excitement. The chill eventually returned to his body as the time outside lingered, but they reached the club in a matter of moments. The warm air of the club scented highly of alcohol, and cigarette smoke from those standing outside. Surprisingly, the smell didn’t bother him tonight. He hadn’t a reason to smoke, and was doing quite well, for he’d quit since he’d gotten to Rutherford. Roman turned his head in Ridley’s direction, a smile forming on his face. “Now, can I buy you a drink?” He asked, the smile fading into a small smirk. Though, he didn’t know her order on doing things. Some people liked to dance first, then some others liked to drink to start the evening.
