She couldn't help but laugh when he seemed so shocked at her response. "Yes, my costumes!" she replied with dancing eyes and a bright grin. Anna collected all sorts of marvelous dresses and apparel. Her closet was dominated by exotic outfits that she bought from thrift stores or clearout sales from closing theatres. She never wore them unless she was required to find her own outfit for a part, but she loved to look at them. It was one of the few things she collected.
"I do love theatre, yes," she added after she brushed a stray hair from her cheek. "It's nice to get away from reality every once in awhile and go play pretend with a bunch of other people who are just as crazy as you." Her pale blue eyes sparkled when she spoke of her passion. It was truly the one thing in the world that Anna adored.
A tiny frown creased Anna's brow when he said he did not perform his own songs. She was just about to ask why, but he began speaking first. Closing her mouth, Anna leaned forward just a hint and awaited his response. When he told her, she nodded very slowly. "Oh," she said quietly, her lips curling in a thoughtful way before she nodded again with more enthusiasm. "I understand that. I think that is a good reason." It was like writing in a journal, almost, but putting it to music. Why would anyone really want their journal exposed to strangers?
She did not push anything about his major. It wasn't her business, and she was well aware of that when he shrugged. Talking about what life would be like after the security of university was a sensitive subject. Though she was excited about the possibilities to come, Anna too was nervous about seriously sitting down and planning out her future. For now, she would be content to simply enjoy her four years learning everything she could.
"I hope so," she said at his return on her plans. Anna was always told her marvelous she was, even by her theatre professor, but she never really instilled much stock in herself. She wasn't cocky, but she did need more confidence. "I can imagine it will be hard for a Tennessee girl to make it, but who knows," she said with a shrug. Like Teddy, touching on the subject with acquaintances was a little rough.
Scooting back in her chair and crossing her dainty legs, Anna glanced idly down at her papers. She needed to study, but she didn't see any true harm in lingering for awhile longer. Running could wait. Studying could wait. "Do you play in here a lot?" she asked suddenly, lifting her eyes and tilting her head curiously. It was a random question, but she was full of those.

Teddy heard Anna's laugh, and it almost comforted him. This situation was just getting more comfortable as every moment passed. For him it was, anyways. "Do you save them from every play you're in?" He was teasing her, of course. He guessed plenty of actors do save them. Memories are always good, especially when you can keep something like a costume as a keepsake.
He lifted his guitar strap off of his shoulder, and rested it back in the case. No use in having that in his lap when he wouldn't be using it. At least, for the moment. He pulled himself back up to a sitting position, and looked at Anna again intently. "Well, I guess sometimes being a different person for however short amount of time could be fun." Now that he thought about it, it could be fun. Just not for him.
Teddy let out a soft sigh, as Anna said she understood his reason. He was glad people here at Rutherford were so understanding. If he were to try to tell that to somebody back in Regina, they'd probably laugh in his face. Or give him a beating, depending on who the person was. Somehow though, he didn't see Anna doing either one of those. "Yup." One word seemed to sum all of it up for now. If he wanted to extend on it, it'd just be more secrets about himself. No, he didn't want to do that. At least, not yet.
He almost liked having his own secrets. It gave him a little mystery. Especially when he got close enough to someone to share them. It was a good feeling, to actually be able to tell anyone his secrets. He had for quite a while with Evelyn now. He cherished that fact with his entire heart. He'd even grown to love Evelyn, as a sister.
He'd found himself staring at one of his shoes as he thought about this. When he caught himself, he turned his attention back to Anna. "Well, who knows." he said, and shrugged lightly. He didn't want to dig very deep. Of course, he couldn't help but be curious. But it was only fair since she didn't press him. And it was a little bit of a privacy issue as well. Everyone wanted to keep their secrets safe, and not have anyone digging for them all the time.
Teddy let his eyes wander a little again, but they just ended up going back to Anna as she asked another question. "Uhh, well it depends really. Mostly I just play in my dorm." he replied, and shrugged lightly. "But it sounds cool in here. Different than in the dorm." he added. He searched for a question for her, but to no avail. Nothing he could ask even was close to her last question. So, he decided on a random one. "So, who's your favorite character that you've played in your entire life time?"

Was he jesting her? She dropped her jaw, almost accusingly as she watched him with curious and narrow eyes. "Well, not all of them," she said in exaggeration. She chewed her bottom lip thoughtfully. She probably had kept a decent number of her own costumes unless they needed to be returned for future use. "I buy a lot from theatres that are going out of business," she said after a moment with a sweet smile.
"It is," she said in agreement. There was really no other way to describe it. Anna saw it as making a living by playing pretend like she used to when she was a little girl. It was the most marvelous job. That being said, though, it was a lot of hard work. Getting into character was not as easy as some people made it out to be. Once you were in the swing of things, however, it was a nice transition.
Her head bobbed in a nod when he answered her question. "I'm sure it sounds good anywhere," she said with a smile. Her feet tapped lightly on the floor as she spoke. She was not a nervous person, but she always had to be in motion. It didn't matter where or who she was with - motion.
His question stumped her. Her eyes widened and then narrowed, her brows furrowing as she slipped deep in thought. Her favorite character... what a tough question. Anna loved almost all of the characters she had played, and it was difficult to choose just one that was best. "We put on a production with my local theatre troupe called While You Sleep," she said after awhile. "I got to be this ridiculously snobby and conceited teenager who was having an affair with her sister's boyfriend." Her words came out quite easily and didn't make the description sound even the least bit strange. "It was probably my favorite because the costumes were incredible," she grinned, "and because it was a challenge."

Teddy let out a small smirk, and followed it with a nod. "Okay, okay. I was just kidding anyways." he said. "If there was something like that that I could save from all of my performances, I would. But 1) I don't perform really, and 2) there isn't anything I could save. Unless I saved the microphone, or some half-chewed gum off the floor. Which would be a little weird." He joked, and smiled as he spoke. "Mm, gotcha." he added, in reply to what she said about theaters going out of business.
"I must admit, acting isn't really for me. I fell in love with guitars and music, and that was that." he said, and gave her another friendly smile. That's actually how it went. From the age of ten, guitar, music, and singing had been his life. He loved it though, he most definetly wasn't struggling or hating it.
Teddy shrugged, and ran a hand through his hair absentmindedly. "It's what I've been told. But I barely even hear it when I'm playing. I just go off in my own little world." he replied, starting to talk with his hands. Sometimes it was almost comical when he started talking with his hands. He didn't do it very often though, but it was part of his fidgeting habit.
He drummed his fingers on his knees, as he let her talk. When he realized what he was doing, he immediately stopped. He didn't want to look antsy or anything. "Yeah, it would sound like a challenge. You don't seem like a snobby and conceited teenager who sleeps with her sister's boyfriend." he said, joking again. He tried to keep his hands to stop entirely, but it was a pretty hard feat for him to do.

Anna let out a thoughtful 'hmph' when he mentioned not saving anything from his performances. "I would say the pick, but that is probably a little redundant," she said with a frown at her suggestion. If he went around doing that, he'd probably have an entire room filled with picks that had only been used one time. It would definitely be a waste of money, she thought. "I wouldn't recommend the gum," she said as an afterthought, sticking out her tongue and shaking her head in disgust. "Yuck."
Her grimace turned to a smile when he talked about his passion for guitars. "That sounds like something my brother would say," she said with a slightly sad smile. Anna missed her brothers and her parents all the time. She wouldn't trade New York for the world, but she did wish she could visit home more than once every few months. "Nobody in my family gets the whole acting thing," she said with a shake of her head. "But coming from the music capital of the world makes music a pretty big deal there." With a sudden thought, she asked, "Do you like country music?" It was a fair question. Anna didn't particularly like it, but she heard several northerners who enjoyed listening to the occasional Tim McGraw or Big & Rich. Who knew.
"I know what you mean," she said in response, leaning back in her chair and rubbing the back of her neck. "That's probably what makes it so much fun, though," she added with a smile.
She saw him drum his fingers on his knee and wondered if he was nervous or anxious still. Perhaps she was asking too many questions or talking to much. When he stopped abruptly, Anna nibbled her lower lip thoughtfully before responding to his comment. "I'm not, I promise," she said with a short laugh. "Do you have any siblings?" she asked, almost timidly. She wanted to make sure he wasn't nervous or fidgeting because of her constant queries.

Teddy let out a soft laugh. "Exactly. There really isn't anything you could save." he said, and shrugged. "Well, I guess I'll have all my memories up in here." With these words, he tapped his head with one finger. "Yeah, the gum would be a little weird..." he added. He set his hands back in his lap, trying not to fidget anymore.
"How old's your brother?" He asked this softly and cautiously, hoping she wouldn't mind that he asked. She seemed to get a little upset about the thought of her brother. He felt the same way though. He missed his older sister and younger brother so much. Teddy wished he could visit them more often. He was close with both of them. He even talked to his sister on the phone every night.
He pushed the thoughts about his family out of his mind, and payed attention to what Anna was saying. "Yeah. When I want to, I can really forget all my problems and frustrations." He said casually, and added another shrug. What was with him? Maybe he was shrugging so much because it was his way of fidgeting and not looking so nervous. With that, he took a deep breath in and relaxed his body against the chair behind him. Some how, he had to stop moving. At least, for the moment he did.
A smile passed across his lips, with Anna's mention of siblings. It just made him think about all the good times he's had with Kendra and Adam, and how close he was with them. "Yeah, I have two siblings. 21-year-old sister and a 6-year-old brother. How about you?" he asked, a little curiously. He continued thinking about the most recent time he shared with his family. Oh, how he missed them when he actually thought about it.

Anna smiled when the student laughed. She was proud of herself, though she wouldn't admit it. It might not be hard to make Teddy laugh, but Anna had imagined it was the impossible. Now that he did, she felt as though the ice had been broken.
She nodded in understanding when he tapped his head and spoke of his memories. "Yeah, that's what really counts," she said, offering another soft smile. Anna kept most of her memories in photographs -- her room was full of them. But you can't always have a camera. A good number of her favorite memories were stored in her mind. Even the bad ones, though she did her best not to bring them to the front of her thoughts.
"Twenty-seven." It did not even take Anna the blink of an eye to respond. She knew from time to time her mother would have to pause and count back the years in order to tell someone her children's ages. Anna, on the other hand, could simply relay the number without a hesitation. She was very keen on memorization - maybe that's why theatre was her calling. She could probably tell you the birthdays down to the hour, but that would be a hint extravagant.
"Do you ever get nervous?" Once again, a more personal question. But she had spoken in a way that was about as cautious as his inquiry on her brother's age. She did not want to consciously push the man off, but she couldn't simply dismiss his passion. It would have been rude. Besides, Anna was terribly curious and loved asking questions.
A broad smile appeared on her lips when he spoke of his siblings. "What are their names?" she asked, tilting her head to the side curiously. When he returned the question, Anna laughed a little and leaned back in her chair. "Walter is twenty-seven, and the oldest. He's the one that loves music," she added with a nod. "Josh is twenty-two. And then Sam is my twin and obviously my age," she said, rolling her eyes at herself for adding such useless information in.

Teddy picked up his guitar once more, lifting it over his shoulders. "Do you mind if I..just.. quietly play?" he asked, a little awkwardly. He grabbed a pick, but didn't start playing yet. He didn't know why he was waiting for her consent, but he was.
If you thought about it, memories did have plenty of meanings behind it. They could be inside your head, in writing, in photos, or certain items that you had with you or picked up there. Either way, they were still rather important. If you didn't have memories about your life, then you really didn't have one. "Mhmm." That's all that passed through his lips for the moment. He'd gotten too caught up in what he'd been thinking about.
Anna's reply almost shocked him. It'd come back pretty quickly; not a moment's hesitation. He did know his sibling's ages, but she'd answered his question like the snap of a whip. It wasn't a bad thing though. It just meant that she knew her family and was pretty close to them. "I don't have any siblings that old..." he stated, for no real reason. Just something to say.
"Oh yes." he said, after hearing her talk about nervousness. "All the time. I tend to get the shakes." he added, and he shook one hand to show her what he meant. Not that she needed showing, but he showed her anyways. Teddy rested his hand on the top of his guitar, still waiting her answer to if he could play or not.
Teddy listened to her question, but didn't start speaking instantly. He figured she'd be answering his question pretty quick, and he'd let her do that first. "My sister's name is Kendra, and my brother's name is Adam." he replied, a smile flickering across his face at the mention of his siblings. He loved them and missed them so much. He wanted to see them more often, but of course, the schedules conflict all the time.

Anna shook her head when he asked about playing quietly. "No, not at all," she said with a small smile. He didn't really need her permission, but it was nice of him to ask. So many people in the school or just around the city didn't bother asking before they did anything. It was one of the strangest things Anna had to adjust to when she moved up north. Tennessee was definitely full of more polite people. Then again, everywhere is different. She was getting used to it.
She giggled at his example. It wasn't funny, really, but her mood was up enough to keep her perky. "I get that before I go on stage," she added casually, offering him a sympathetic smile. It was never enough to keep her from performing, though. If you loved something enough, it took more than a few nervous tremors to turn you away. "But that makes it all the more rewarding, you know? It's like beating a fear."
"Kendra is such a pretty name!" Anna said enthusiastically. She had a friend back home that shared the same name. It was always one the blonde teenager fancied. Anna absolutely hated her name. She didn't like hearing it because it was so bland and dull. She went by Anna Sophia with the professors, but everyone else still called her Anna. It was like she couldn't escape the boring name. Oh well.
"Do you miss them?" she asked softly, seeing the brief sadness that seemed to cross his face at their mention. Anna could understand the feeling. She missed her brothers, especially her twin. For the most part, though, they kept in touch with the phone and e-mail. Even so, it was still different than seeing them every day like she used to.

Teddy gave a small nod, before beginning to strum away on his guitar. It was soft, not really much of anything. But it was playing nonetheless. Guitar was his passion, and he'd do anything to play a little on it. Especially now, since he'd originally come to practice guitar, and it was just a concidence that Anna had come along. She had interrupted as well, which Teddy didn't mind, but it did give him rights to play quietly.
He pulled his head up a little to look at her, as she spoke to him. "The shakes are the worst," he commented, smiling lopsidedly. "I hate them the most of all my nervousness." He looked back down to watch his fingers. For some odd reason, he always liked watching himself play. Otherwise the shakes and nervousness kicked in even worse. "Exactly. Like beating a fear..." he added, pretty much repeating what she had said. It sounded good though.
"Yeah, that's what I think as well." Teddy replied, smiling again. Accept this time he didn't look up. He wasn't trying to come off like he wanted this conversation to end. Well, he kind of did now. He wanted to continue with his practicing. But it didn't really matter since he had all day to practice. "She doesn't think so, though."
"What are your siblings' names?" he asked, curiously. He actually was curious. It was weird, since Anna's siblings' names had no affect to Teddy whatsoever. But it was one of those odd human tendencies to be curious about it. "Yeah, I miss them a whole heck of a lot. Especially when I'm talking to them over the phone. It's different to just be able to hear their voice and not actually see them."

Anna loved the sound of the guitar playing idly through the room. It was quiet enough to remain light but dainty enough to give the air a sweet tune. She listened in silence for a few seconds before blinking and nodding at his mention of the shakes. "I tend to start pacing right before I go on stage," she confessed with a shy, sweet smile. "I shake before anything dramatic, but only until I'm in front of the audience. It kind of evaporates after that."
Kendra sounded similar to Anna in the sense that she didn't fancy her name. Anna, for the longest time, attempted to go by Anna Sophia with no success. After awhile, she just gave up. It wasn't really worth correcting people time and time again to no avail.
"Walter, Josh, and Sam." Anna smiled in response. She missed each of them, though perhaps the biggest tear had been from Sam, her twin. Maybe it was something about being a twin that made separation harder than it would be with another sibling. There was really no telling, but Anna missed Sam the most... almost more than her parents.
She nodded in understanding. "Yeah," she said with another small smile. "It makes you wish you were there with them," she added quietly. At least, that is what she tended to wish whenever she talked to her brothers or parents. Even though Rutherford had turned into a home away from home, she couldn't help but get homesick from time to time.
Anna glanced up at the clock hanging on the far right wall. The small hand ticked slowly; she had been there for nearly thirty minutes now. "I should probably go," she said softly, turning her attention back to the other student sitting across from her. Anna didn't want to overstay her welcome, if she was welcome at all. Besides, she had to practice her lines at some point today.

Teddy loved playing his guitar. Sure, it might be completely obvious; seeing as music was his major. And the fact that he played every chance he got. But it was so much more than that. His playing put him into a totally different world, where the only things that seemed to exist was him and the guitar. There were no other problems or discrimination, just him and Mustang. That's all that really mattered for a good portion of his life, and he was glad that it stayed that way. Sure, more people and things mattered to him now. But he was glad that his guitar was still important. "Yeah, I know what you mean. Everytime I play I get a little nervous. But once I start, I go into a world where it's just me and the guitar, and like you said...it evaporates."
"Ah," he commented, with a small shrug. He wasn't sure what else to say about her sibling's names. What was there to say really, other than 'I like that name'. And she'd already said that about Kendra, so there was no real use in repeating it. Teddy glanced down at his watch, seeing at how late it actually had gotten. He was exhausted now, and just wanted to go home and sleep for a while.
"Look, Anna it was nice meeting you and everything. But I really should be going." he said. "I-I have somewhere I kinda gotta be." he added, using a small white lie. He really didn't want to hurt her feelings. Anna seemed like a pretty cool girl; someone he wanted to talk to more. "Umm..." He grabbed a piece of paper out of his guitar case and jotted down his cell number. With that, he passed it over with a smile. "Give me a call sometime," he added, before putting his guitar away. He closed the case, and stood up with the case in his hand. "See you." Two simple words, and he was out the door and heading towards the parking lot.
ooc; Closed, I'd say...
